Position Summary

The Buyer is primarily responsible for developing, maintaining and investigating potential new suppliers as well as current suppliers for new and existing programs.  The Buyer will create Material Requisitions, Purchase Orders, Requests for Quotations and assist/work with various departments within Karmax to ensure all production requirements are met.

Key Responsibilities

1.    Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Karmax.
2.    Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with Section 28 of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Regulations for Industrial Establishments.
3.    Follow Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies
4.    Performs all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Karmax.
5.    Responsible for buying of production materials, operating supplies, manufacturing equipment and services.
6.    Procurement /Development of sources of supply.
7.    Able to maintain a positive contribution towards quality, customer satisfaction and company profitability.
8.    Maintain vendor file, purchase price, price fluctuations and quality records on purchased items.
9.    Resolve material claims with vendors.
10.    Work on projects, reports and contribute various studies as required.
11.    Insourcing, outsourcing, and resourcing parts as required.
12.    Customs issues including importation and exportation of steel, Parts in Assembly, and tooling.
13.    Negotiate pricing, terms and conditions, and contracts for new programs, current programs, and transportation.
14.    Maintain relations with current vendors, conduct vendor visits on a regular basis, and develop new sources of supply.
15.    Responsible for coordinating pre-production requirements to meet customer demands.
16.    Be part of the production part approval process with Quality Assurance and Engineering.
17.    Responsible for resolving shortages and issues with suppliers and products.
18.    Provide accurate and competitive pricing to Sales/Engineering in the pursuit of new business.
19.    Perform all duties in an environmentally responsible manner in accordance with the Karmax Environmental Policy Statement—3 P’s. Prevent Pollution, Preserve Natural Resources & Protect our Environment
20.    Perform other duties as required.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Grade 12 Education or GED
•    College Diploma in Supply Chain and Operations Management
•    Enrolled in Purchasing Management Association of Canada and/or the Professional Development Program.
