Role Summary

Under the guidance and supervision of a Certified Tradesmen complete the tasks assigned by the Press Shop Tooling Supervisor.  This position will support production by trouble shooting problems, making repairs and system improvements (optimization) and assist in all aspects of new tool building. A Tool & Die Apprentice is responsible for completing assignments or tasks within the trade under the direction of a Tool and Die Maker and is required to successfully complete all government regulated training. 

Key Responsibilities

  1. Safely operates equipment and tools and performs all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Karmax.
  2. Must abide by all Training Centre rules and safety regulations.
  3. Must maintain a minimum 70% academic score during the schooling portion of apprenticeship.
  4. When filling in for production technician, utilizes ANDON when encountering a quality issue or problem that hinders the completion of standardized work during cycle time.
  5. Respond to ANDON calls in a timely manner to address and diagnose issues. Coordinate containment of any suspect parts.
  6. Perform all duties in an environmentally responsible manner in accordance with the Karmax Environmental Policy Statement—3 P’s. Prevent Pollution, Preserve Natural Resources & Protect our Environment
  7. Perform other duties as required.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Grade 12 Education or GED
  • Active Membership in Journeyperson Candidates Class (430A Tool and Die Maker) of the Ontario College of Trades
  • Successful Completion of at least 4000 hours of On-the-Job Training
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent mathematical, analytical and organizational skills
  • Able to perform various computer functions (Microsoft Office, Production Software)
  • Able to safely operate all Material Handling Equipment (Forklift, crane, buggy) in assigned area of responsibility
