Role Summary

Directly supports a team.  Carries out leadership responsibilities in accordance with Magna Powertrain and Magna’s policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; ensures safe and healthful workplace; contributes to performance management and maintains related documentation; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively simplify the work instructions, procedures and processes within the value stream to drive continuous improvement of the Quality Management System; supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF 16949:2016).
  • Plant Specialist for Lean Manufacturing processes.
  • Support plant and engineering activities.
  • Perform constant process improvements, plant streamlining and optimization.
  • Develop systems to support 5S
  • Develop Pull Systems.
  • Provide training or improvements to the process or assembly line.
  • Administer general department functions, including department meetings, team building, and development and on-going continual improvements of the department procedures and instructions.
  • Constant process improvements.
  • Complete project-type assignment of various complexities as required.
  • Launch phase support & troubleshooting support.
  • Coordinate company effort on selected projects to identify opportunities for significant improvement in cost or quality
  • Provide the division with value added improvement suggestions, procedures, controls and reporting procedures.
  • Ensure that all project deliverables and timing are met.
  • Ensure Operators are producing parts in accordance with Standardized Work (STW) or to an approved deviation by performing daily audits
  • Support other departments on an as needed basis in systems/operations planning and control.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the Department Manager or designate.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Three (3) years working experience in manufacturing, automotive preferred.

  • Grade 12 diploma, or equivalent preferred.

  • Demonstrated proficiency of basic industrial math, reading comprehension, and problem solving.

  • Must be able to communicate fluently in English.

  • Demonstrated familiarity with plant Occupational Safety and Health requirements and/or applicable legislation.

  • Knowledge of set-up and CNC machines, programming experience an asset.

  • Knowledge of production and tool room equipment.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing measurement tools.

  • Familiar with Lean Manufacturing principles an asset (Standardized Work, Pull System, TPM, Change Over, 5S, etc.)

  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills.

  • Previous leadership experience is required.

  • Excel test and questionnaire required to proceed to interview process.
