Role Summary

The System Engineer understands the systems requirements and supports all the functional disciplines - e.g. electrical, mechanical, software the design and validation of the end product that meets the customer requirements. The Systems Engineer should be familiar with the S.I.M.I.L.A.R concept of systems engineering.

Key Responsibilities

Responsible for all relevant system activities 

Supports the solution definition, technical feasibility analysis and architecture specification  

Supports bi-directional traceability between system requirements and input requirements, test cases, decomposed discipline requirements, system architectural design, as applicable

esponsible to define the system’s context and boundary diagrams for the complete system r

Responsible for the key performance indicators (KPIs) and ensures that the deployed system works as intended to meet the system requirements

Ensures that the system design is agreed and communicated to all stakeholders using the approved tools and methods

Supports Verification testing at the bench, system, and vehicle levels  

Supports all Validation testing ED, DV, and PV activities 

Supports the hardware, software, function, system test, manufacturing and purchasing teams

Drives, promotes, and defends the System Engineering Line strategy within the project in accordance to policies, procedures and operational guidelines related to Magna (GPEP) and established quality management systems (IATF 16949, ASPICE, ISO26262 FuSa, ISO 21434 Cyber Security)

Ensures consistency between the system requirements and system architecture

Understands, uses, suggests modifications, and supports the architecture design

Support the analysis of the customer and the system requirements and 

Supports the management of the complexity and risks

The System Engineer understands the system requirements based on the customer, legal, standards and internal requirements / specifications as basis for the mechanical, electrical, optics and software discipline.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering / Software Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent (Master’s preferred)

4-8 years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) for automotive electronics serial development projects (mandatory).

Knowledge of product development engineering practices in automotive field

Requirements management

Revision control (Configuration management)

Change control

Requirements decomposition planning and reporting (KPI generation)

Test plan development

Test execution planning

Track records of writing good requirements that can be successfully implemented.

Profound technical knowledge of automotive electronics products. Familiar with typical automotive OEM requirements. Can anticipate customer requirements, even if not stated in customer documentation.

Experienced in use of requirements management tools. Familiar with concepts such as baselining, inheritance etc.

Working knowledge of IS026262, hazard, SAE J2464, IEC, NEC, ISO 20G53, and two-level fault strategies.


Experience with ALM tools (e.g. PTC Integrity, DOORS), simulation SW (e.g. Matlab SIMULINK), Enterprise Architect

Expertise in using CAN based tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, neoVI, etc.

Experience with UML
