Role Summary

Manages the environmental and health and safety programs to achieve compliance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements for our manufacturing facility. Develop and implement employee training programs.  Assess training and development needs for shop floor employees. Work independently on specific project as required under the direction of general manager or his designate. Continuous improvement - initiates coordinates and administers continuous improvement efforts. Records and evaluates continuous improvement projects.  Track performance and cost reduction targets.

Key Responsibilities - Environmental

• Implement, coordinate & maintain ISO 14001 certification.

• Implement & maintain environmental programs, policies, and procedures considering EHS legislation and corporate policy.

• Perform environmental training for all levels of the division, including orientation to new employees.

• Coordinate required inspections & audits; champion internal environmental auditing (ISO 14001 Lead Auditor).

• Complete the yearly NPRI reporting documents and ensure submitted in a timely manner.

• Submit on a quarterly basis environmental action plan update (Internal/external).

• Ensure yearly managers review is conducted in respect to objectives and targets.

• Coordinate all annually required testing and monitoring such as our storm, sanitary waste generators and certificates of air.

• Champion energy committee.

Key Responsibilities - Health & Safety

• Implement and maintain health and safety programs, policies and procedures considering health, safety and environmental legislation and corporate policy.

• Perform health and safety training for all levels of the division, including orientation to new employees.

• Coordinate required inspections and audits, champion internal health and safety auditing.

• Perform workplace inspections, participate in JEHSC meetings and complete action plans.

• Review of all accident investigations and ensure that proper preventative measures are in place.

• Initiate work stoppages due to unsafe work conditions.

• Conduct and maintain all physical demands analysis and hazard assessments.

• Maintain all ergonomic assessment information and work with manufacturing related departments to ensure ergonomic assessments and action items are in place.

• Assist the manufacturing team with the approval of new equipment and process design (PSR).

• Provide direction for occupational hygiene concerns and hazardous material management (SDS).

• Submit on a quarterly basis health and safety action plan updates.

• Implement, coordinate and maintain WSIB & ISO 45001 programs and ergonomics program.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

• Post-secondary degree or diploma in occupational health and safety.

• Two (2) to three (3) years previous experience in health, safety and environmental within a manufacturing environment.

• Certified member from the Workplace Health and Safety Agency.

• Lead Auditor certified in ISO 14001, WSIB and ISO 45001 Programs and working knowledge of the IATF system.

• JHSC Certified Member.

• Strong knowledge of applicable health, safety and environmental legislative requirements.

• Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written).

• Excellent documentation, organizational and project management skills.

• Strong leadership and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to develop and implement training programs on a plant wide level.
