Role Summary

This position will provide Hydraulic/Pneumatic Technical support to the manufacturing areas within Karmax Heavy Stamping. This position will work closely with and train the mechanical crews with the Maintenance Department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area and perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with the safety policies of Karmax and Section 28
  • Prepare design documentation such as design requirements, design descriptions, design specifications, technical specifications, component specifications, test procedures and plans, commissioning procedures, registration design submissions packages, flow sheets, detail drawings, general arrangements and equipment layouts
  • Design/Project manage hydraulic & Pneumatic circuit upgrades
  • Support Maintenance by:
  • assisting to analyze, troubleshoot and correct problems as required to restore to operation equipment or processes
  • contributing to the development of job procedures and best practices
  • providing and reviewing specifications for new equipment and consumables in keeping with good management of the company’s resources
  • responding to the needs of the facility, develop training programs and curriculum and as may be required to provide training to employees
  • working with service groups, suppliers, contractors and Engineering to meet site objectives and ensure process improvements and projects are conducted in a safe, timely manner
  • Carries out preventative maintenance procedures on hydraulic / mechanical equipment as laid out by the manufacturer’s specifications
  • Test and overhaul hydraulic equipment to determine if parts are up to specifications
  • Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited University
  • 3 years of experience with hydraulic equipment from basic pistons pumps through to pressure compensated units, hydraulic cylinders, valve equipment, hydraulic hardware, proportionally controlled systems, servo valves, etc.
  • Cad experience (solid works, AutoCAD, and other fluid power design suites)
  • 2+ years’ experience in an industrial setting is preferred - aligned will the steel industry or heavy industrial background.
  • Registered, or eligible to be registered, as a Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario.

  • Able to work in various locations within and outside the plant.
  • Understanding of fluid mechanics and process system control design including open and closed loop oil hydraulic circuit design.
