Division Description

Located in Milton, Ontario, Modatek Systems is a divsion of Magna International. At Modatek, our dedicated team produce chassis systems utilizing innovative hydroforming, automated welding, and electrostatic coating processes within a large, safety-focused facility.

Role Summary

The Jr. Controls Team Member will maintain all equipment to required standards and be responsive to line calls and equipment failures.  The Technical Team Controls routinely performs work independently and must be able to work in an environment with many distractions, maintaining a high level of accuracy and safety, while performing their duties. This position is under the guidance of a mentor.

Key Responsibilities

• Follow guidance of Mentor(s) and Technical Leadership. Required to meet expectations of the defined development plan
• Gain experience in assembly tooling, automation, welding and robots
• Handling projects from inception to completion
• Troubleshoot, maintain and implement software changes (programming) to the Allen Bradley platform of PLC’s, HMI’s, VFD’s, and Servo drives
• Support new machine builds, installations and modifications
• Suggest and implement improvements to manufacturing/internal processes, information and procedures. Take advantage of all cost reduction opportunities
• Demonstrate a sense of urgency in achieving results
• Develop controls, drawings and design concepts
• Deal with various vendors (supplier and equipment)
• Establish and maintain effective communications with production, quality and engineering
• Participate in ongoing cross training activities within the organization
• Train and monitor Team Members to operate the equipment and systems
• Know and understand process documentation and customer specific requirements, as they relate to the job function
• Adhere to good housekeeping practices; maintaining a clean, environmentally safe and organized department
• Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

• A degree/diploma in an automation and robotics related field
• Minimum of (two) 2 years’ experience troubleshooting and programming PLC’s in a laboratory or industrial setting
• Capable of reading and editing electrical, mechanical and layout drawings
• Robotic experience, programming and troubleshooting Fanuc and Kuka robots
• Working with Rockwell software, and a solid understanding of hardware
• Background in PLC Networking, ControlNet and DeviceNet
• PLC programming experience with Allen Bradley and Siemens
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively in English, both oral and written
• Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics
• Demonstrated organizational, interpersonal and problem solving skills
• Maturity of judgment, positive human relations and leadership skills
• Ability to work independently and without supervision
• Ability to uphold confidentiality
• Demonstrates the ability to work in a team environment
• Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs
• Ability to work rotating/static shifts
• Ability to work in locations inside and outside the Modatek facility
