Division Description

Located in Milton, Ontario, Modatek Systems is a divsion of Magna International. At Modatek, our dedicated team produce chassis systems utilizing innovative hydroforming, automated welding, and electrostatic coating processes within a large, safety-focused facility.

Role Summary

The Supplier Development Specialist ensures that supplying company’s systems, processes and build capacities meet the design intent of Modatek and are compliant with the end customer’s needs. This includes initial supply chain company verification. Work in a team environment as a key resource to develop new supply sources, to improve cost competitiveness and be the conduit between Modatek and supplier.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess new and existing supplier capabilities to meet product, cost, quality, capacity and fulfilment ensuring suppliers are able to meet requirements for performance and delivery of quality components
• Drive improvements utilizing Lean methodologies, supplier scorecards and own supplier audit, ensuring supplier compliance, while driving systematic problem solving and process improvement plans to deliver value
• Identify High Risk suppliers using sound statistical methods for opportunity to improve their quality
• Track supplier’s performance indicators, based on scorecards and rankings, to facilitate and develop the supply base’s ability to consistently meet or exceed defined expectations
• Develop positive relationships and work closely Program Buyers, when needed, to manage, implement and track supplier/engineering, design changes, capacity studies and transfers
• Lead Modatek team in supplier pre-assessment and decision making for business award
• Assist with new program launch by working with suppliers to ensure key milestones are achieved
• Lead cross functional team on improving performance of identified suppliers based on supplier monitoring
• Ensures all IATF 16949:2016 required and related documentation, from supplier, is developed, completed, and maintained as appropriate through to PPAP approval including updating Modatek’s Approved Supplier List.
• Deliver results as measured by key metrics, such as supplier yield, field cost, field defect rate, supplier quality plan engagement/effectiveness, and corrective & preventative action closure.
• Follows and comply with all Operational Procedures and Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e. IATF 16949:2016)
• Understands, promotes and lives by Magna’s philosophies and Employee Charter

• Performs other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

• Post-secondary graduate with a technical degree (Manufacturing/Engineering preferred)/diploma or Certificate in Quality Engineering (CQE)
• Three years of automotive, or equivalent quality engineering experience
• Knowledge of leading practices in strategic sourcing and end-to-end supply management process
• Proficient computer skills with advanced skills on MS Office applications
• Prior experience with IATF 16949:2016 procedures (auditing experience preferred)
• Prior experience with Advanced  Product Quality Planning (APQP), Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) submissions, Geometric Dimensions & Tolerance (GD&T), Flow Diagrams, FMEA’s, Control Plans, Statistics, and fixture development
• Demonstrated ability to use precision measurement tools (height gauge, vernier, micrometer, bore gauge)
• Demonstrated analytical, auditing, supplier evaluation and root cause analysis using different methods, ie. DOE, SPC, etc.
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, communication, conflict resolution and stakeholder relationship management skills to engage others, build consensus and resolve issues.
• Ability to uphold confidentiality
• Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment
• Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs
