About the Role

The Engineering Supervisor – Manufacturing, Tooling and Packaging is the primary leader of all manufacturing, tooling, and packaging engineers within the engineering department. This role will be highly technical in nature, requiring a proven track record in the design and implementation of assembly processes (TM, equipment, tooling), stamping processes, packaging planning, and project management. 

Your Responsibilities

 

  • Takes an active role in the safety of their team, and the contractors that their team oversees
  • Promote safety, ensure engineering team members processes capture good ergonomic practices, acceptable walk distances, and that equipment has PSHSR sign off
  • Lead initiatives for improving the engineering processes to ensure compliance to applicable industry standards and regulations
  • Implement corrective actions for safety issues, quality issues, and audits
  • Provide input to department budgets, project budgets, and personnel plans to support departmental KPIs
  • Coach and lead the engineers within your area to be highly effective with proven ability to maintain target dates and objectives of the department
  • Develop Engineering team members
  • Complete layered audits to include safety, standardize work, housekeeping and 5S
  • Report on metrics/KPIs for manufacturing engineering area to all levels of the organization
  • Support RFQs and project management for your team, escalate problems quickly to engineering department manager
  • Support team collaboration with cross-functional teams to integrate their feedback into the design of equipment, tooling, processes
  • Participate in department manpower planning and recruiting
  • Review all process layouts to ensure safety zoning is acceptable and will not create unnecessary downtime 
  • Support and foster continuous improvement culture by actively engaging in the process and challenging the team to find beneficial changes that can be implemented
  • Conduct and/or support technical reviews with vendors

Your preferred qualifications

 

  • Diploma or degree in mechanical, industrial, design, automotive engineering.
  • 8+ years’ experience in the field of manufacturing engineering, project management or tool design in the area of chassis and/or body components and assemblies. Previously leadership of engineering teams would be an asset.
  • Basic knowledge in Requirements & Configuration tools
  • AutoCAD, 3D modelling and PackAssist an asset
  • In-depth knowledge of quoting new programs, engineering changes, continuous improvement projects, and equipment
  • In-depth knowledge of designing processes, tooling design for assembly and stamping diescapital procurement, safety standards such as Z432, Reg 851 and Reg 213engineering and QA analysis including PFMEA, DFMEA, 8D
  • Experience with overseeing suppliers to ensure quality of equipment received, and meets standards and specifications
  • Experience in equipment buyoff process with suppliers
  • Experience launching new programs during the PPAP phase, including customer interactions around run at rate, and early build activities
  • Knowledge of packaging development – both standard packaging and customized
  • Understanding of press operation with respect to capacity, process and changeover
