Role Summary

Manages the full scope of health, safety and environmental programs. Responsible for the coordination of all Health and Safety policies, procedures, education, and training for both salary and hourly employee groups. Provides information and guidance to Supervisors, Managers, and employees on HS&E matters as necessary.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the planning and implementation of all Health, Safety, and Environmental programs and activities such as but not limited to: Work Refusals, Contractor Program, Heat Stress, WHMIS, TDG, Lockout, Spill Response, Emergency / Disaster Plans
  • Responsible to support the Magna / MSS Ergonomics Program.
  • Manages the JHSEC with the objective to create a safety culture.
  • Accountable for the 14001 Environmental System, including but not limited to internal audits, external audits, maintenance of the ETG document system, training and development of policies and procedures.
  • Conducts safety investigations determining root cause and ensuring adequate safety corrective actions are implemented.
  • Maintains legislative compliance for both safety and environmental regulations.
  • Responsible for annual HS&E Training Plans and Plan presentation to appropriate managers including orientation.
  • Coordinates the safety concern process.
  • Prepares and participates all Magna related safety and environmental audits and inspections.
  • Actively participates in the APQP process and ensures that all PHSR are in place and completed for all equipment.
  • Maintain monthly KOI’s for safety and environmental
  • Support the claims management and RTW process at MSS.
  • Manages the first aid process internal: training, first aid room, follow up and accident investigation process.
  • Adhere to and follow all company health & safety policies, practices and rules for the workplace;
  • Comply with legislative requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act and Workplace Safety & Insurance Act, including the Duties of a worker, Supervisor and Duties of the Employer as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, s. 27 and 28 and all other applicable legal requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • A university Degree in Ergonomics / Kinesiology, Environmental Studies, Labor Relations or Human Resources are required
  • Three to five years prior HS&E experience, preferable in the automotive manufacturing sector.
  • Prior unionized experience would be an asset.
