Role Summary

The          The Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator will be responsible for ensuring that all safety and environmental standards are maintained and in compliance with OSHA and EPA regulations as well as Montezuma Manufacturing and Magna policies. 

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ensure policies and procedures are consistently applied based on the principles of the Magna Employee’s Charter, Divisional Health, Safety and Environmental Policy, as well as compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations, including OSHA, EPA and IDNR
  2. Ensure a safe work environment by coordinating all safety activities 
  3. Plan and coordinate internal and external safety training 
  4. Coordinate all meetings and activities of the Safety and Ergonomics Committees
  5. Provide support to associates and management on health, safety and environmental matters
  6. Establish written safety standards, annually update and review 
  7. Evaluate safety and ergonomic issues in workstation design and layout 
  8. Provide and maintain statistics to assist in continuous improvement in the area of workplace safety and loss control
  9. Review all accident/incident investigation reports and provide leadership in developing and implementing corrective actions
  10. Conduct monthly safety and environmental audits as required and report results to appropriate personne
  11. Maintain a high profile with associates on the plant floor and be a strong advocate to ensure that associate safety and environmental concerns and issues are resolved in a timely manner
  12. Promote and practice “safety first” 
  13. Work with worker’s compensation carrier and occupational health providers 
Key Qualifications/Requirements
  • Post secondary education in safety engineering, industrial hygiene or equivalent experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Three to five years experience in health, safety and environmental field, in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Must be a team player and promote a team approach to problem solving
  • Highly self-motivated and flexible to changing priorities
  • Must be capable of working under pressure and with short completion times on projects, and of working flexible hours in order to meet both internal and external customer requirements
  • Intermediate computer skills required to process reports, charts, training and documents
  • Able to maintain confidentiality and use discretion and tact
  • Must exhibit high integrity and honesty
  • Ability to effectively and appropriately present information and respond to questions from various groups
  • Must have good organizational skills to attend to multiple tasks simultaneously
