About the Role

Responsible for the management of the Human Resources department, improving the quality of work life for all employees, and providing leadership to all management to support policies and procedures in accordance with the Employee’s Charter.

Your Responsibilities

Job Security
•    Manage, support, and provide direction to all staff within the Human Resources department to ensure customer service to all employees and the administration of all Human Resources programs;
•    Develop and ensure all company policies and procedures comply with applicable government legislation and the Magna Automotive Employee’s Charter; 
•    Develop, maintain and continuously improve the effectiveness of Human Resources programs, policies and procedures, including Employee Relations, Staffing/Retention/Motivation, Employee Orientation, Training & Development, Communications, Compensation, Payroll & Employee Benefits, Organizational Development, Organizational Change and Succession Planning; 
•    As the ISO14001 Management Representative: a) ensure that environmental management system requirements are established, implemented and maintained in accordance with the ISO14001 standard, b) report on the performance of the environmental management systems to appropriate managers for review;
•    Coach and guide management regarding Leadership, Organizational Strategy, Organizational Change, Performance Management, Discipline, Diversity, Policies & Procedures and Teamwork;
•    Assess trends through generated graphs and charts and maintain continuous improvement project tracking to report out status on a monthly basis or as required; 
•    Establish divisional compensation and salary administration programs to ensure wage equity of personnel;
•    Ensure employee confidentiality and data integrity is strictly maintained;
•    Participate in annual business/budget review and complete own department budget preparation and monitoring to ensure budgets are achieved;
•    All other duties as assigned

Communication
•    Maintain open channels of communication (meetings, communication boards, focus group facilitation, surveys, secret ballot votes, etc.);
•    Facilitate and support the Fairness Committee Program (as required) and the Hotline investigation;
•    Manage and administer annual performance review process for all employees;
•    Communicate to all levels of the organization in regards to safety, morale, efficiency, and discipline;
•    Prepare and run all monthly employee meetings;
•    Attend all scheduled training sessions, and complete related course materials;
•    Respond to employee issues, concerns, suggestions and complaints within 48 hours;
•    Provide feedback to employees (both positive and negative) on an ongoing basis.

Continuous Improvement
•    Manage the annual Employee Opinion Survey action planning process; 
•    Suggest systems, processes, and activities that increase productivity by improving integration of people, materials, equipment and finance; 
•    Introduce or recommend changes to work methods, safety measures and aligned with Mafact and MPS methodology.

Who we are looking for

Health & Safety
•    Champion the health and safety program including Disability Management, Audits, Investigations, Inspections and other initiatives;
•    Assist with the responsibilities of the Ergonomics Committee and required quarterly assessments;
•    Ensure all department Managers/Supervisors are aware of the requirement to implement and enforce
all safety and non-safety plant rules and regulations are followed;
•    Provide resources/training for employees related to department hazards and safe operation of equipment  to ensure employee awareness of safety policies, appropriate work habits and obligation for compliance for employees and visitors;
•    Respond immediately to items brought to his/her attention with respect to non-compliance issues;
•    Adhere to Magna Seating health and safety, environmental, standards, operating procedures, policies and forms;
•    Advise employees of the existence of any potential or actual hazards to their health & safety in the workplace of which you are aware;
•    Communicate to employees the importance of adherence to established health & safety policies and procedures through safety talks, departmental meetings and or work center briefings;
•    Commend safe behaviors and positive health & safety performance exhibited by employees;
•    Assist in the training of new employees on safe work practices and identification of hazards in the workplace;
•    Support employees impaired through injury or illness to safely return to work (Return to Work program); 
•    Comply with legislative requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including the Duties of a Supervisor and Duties of the Employer as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, s. 27 and 28.

Fair Treatment
•    Monitor performance for all employees in the department with regards to their adherence to company policies and procedures 
•    Administer progressive discipline when warranted and complete  required documentation and disciplinary reviews and meetings;
•    Demonstrated ability to resolve issue quickly with consistency and fairness;
•    Taking appropriate corrective action when substandard performance is observed. 
•    Investigate all employee complaints of unfair treatment in a timely manner.
•    Conducts annual Performance Review to those under your responsibility.
•    Follow the Principles of the Employee’s Charter and the Corporate Constitution
•    Ensures that interactions with employees are civil, respectful, and professional at all times

Your preferred qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
•    Minimum Completion of a Post-Secondary Degree/Diploma in a Human Resources field or equivalent;
•    Completion of the SHRM designation or working towards designation, preferred;
•    Minimum of 7 years’ experience in a Human Resources role;
•    Sound knowledge of applicable employment legislation, OSHA, Employee’s Charter;
•    Related manufacturing experience in a leadership/supervisory role;
•    Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint, Visio;
•    Must be able to prioritize and multi-task;
•    Demonstrating diplomacy and tactfulness;
