Role Summary

Works with the Logistics department to establish sound and efficient material handling processes both systematically and physically.  Identifies, establishes, and maintains appropriate inventory levels. Contacts suppliers and initiates corrective actions as required.  Participates in continuous improvement processes and champions programs to improve cost, and delivery.  After hours and weekend work may be required.  

Key Responsibilities

•    Plan, coordinate and notify department employees of their daily tasks.
•    Develop and maintain a team-oriented atmosphere at all times.
•    Oversee PCN process as it pertains to Materials functions.  
•    Ensure accuracy and integrity of Materials Department systems are maintained through all changes.  This includes monitoring the MRP system planning data with respect to “build outs”, including standard packs, safety stock, lead time and raw/fab authorizations.
•    Administer Supplier Delivery Performance system.
•    Summarize and report all delivery issues weekly and/or monthly.  Ensure compliance with supplier expectations manual.
•    Administer Inventory Cycle count program.
•    Lead root cause investigation into inaccurate inventory situations identified through the cycle count process.
•    Administer Premium Freight tracking, and recovery chargeback process.
•    DNCR preparation, including follow-up with Suppliers and carriers.
•    Participate in the planning and execution of the Annual Physical Inventory.
•    Assist with the preparation of Obsolescence claims when required.
•    Develops all production schedules respective to job.
•    Maintains production schedules and coordinates all necessary processes with corresponding departments.
•    Monitors supplier delivery schedules to ensure material coverage in support of production schedules.
•    All other duties as assigned
 

Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Minimum of five (5) years of materials/logistics management experience in a high volume automotive assembly or manufacturing environment.  
•    Graduate of a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field, preferred 
•    Excellent leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Proven project and time management ability.
•    Computer literate, including proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/Project.
•    Good knowledge of QS-9001 and TS16949
•    Good understanding of production inventory control techniques and principles.  Knowledge and experience with a formal manufacturing control system and Just-In-Time (JIT) concepts, principles, and techniques strongly preferred.
•    Results Orientated. Has a strong bias for action. Follows up quickly and consistently to brings issues to closure. 
•    Team approach to problem solving;
•    Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
•    Proven project and time management ability.
Health & Safety
•    Assist in weekly workplace inspections.
•    Perform weekly inspections of the work area and document the existence of any hazards.
•    Communicate to employees the importance of adherence to established health & safety policies and procedures through safety talks.
•    Communicate and enforce all company health & safety policies, practices and rules, and readily correct unsafe conditions or behaviors of which you become aware.
•    Commend safe behaviors and positive health & safety performance exhibited by employees.
•    Assist in the training of new employees on safe work practices and identification of hazards in the work area(s) under your responsibility.
•    Investigate workplace accidents/incidents of which you are aware and/or within the work area(s) under your responsibility, which may include but is not limited to conducting interviews with employees, investigating the incident scene, preparing incident investigation reports, and implementing corrective actions.  In the event of a critical injury, ensure a worker representative of the Joint Health & Safety Committee is notified and assists with the investigation.
•    Maintain an adequate stock of all personal protective equipment required for your department and ensure its use.
•    Support employees impaired through injury or illness to safely return to work (Return to Work program). 
•    Comply with legislative requirements of the Occupational Health & Safety Act, including the Duties of a Supervisor and Duties of the Employer as outlined in the Occupational Health & Safety Act, s. 27 and 28.

•    Monitor performance for all employees in the department with regards to their adherence to company policies and procedures.
•    Administer progressive discipline when warranted and complete required documentation and disciplinary reviews and meetings.
•    Monitor attendance of department employees.

•    Ensure weekly meetings are given to all department staff to discuss safety, performance and goals.

•    Respond to employee issues, concerns, suggestions and complaints within 48 hours.
•    Provide feedback to employees (both positive and negative) on an ongoing basis.

Continuous Improvement
•    Champion plant 5S activity, ensure regular audits are conducted and issues corrected to ensure the operation meets 5S expectations.
•    Suggest systems, processes, and activities that increase productivity by improving integration of people, materials, equipment and finance. 
•    Choose and/or develop more efficient and safe material delivery processes using new, existing or modified machinery and equipment.
•    Introduce or recommend changes to work methods aligned with Mafact and MPS methodology.
•    Assist employees with their development within the organization
