Position Summary

This position will support the engineering department in the development, implementation and operation of industry 4.0 initiatives and tools including the internet of things (IoT), big data analytics, defect detection, vision systems, and Augmented Reality.  Utilize knowledge of mechanical engineering, product design, materials, tooling and production capabilities and quality control standards. Champion lean initiatives throughout the organization to improve effectiveness and to eliminate waste.

Duties and Responsibilities

Review, recommend and implement current industry 4.0 initiatives and tools to support operations, including equipment and process monitoring, data analytics, advanced vision systems collaborative automation, augmented reality, and defect detection; support Corporate initiatives and read across activities and implement into current operations; develop and implement standards and specifications for equipment and processes that align with Industry 4.0 initiatives and implement those standards on both new launches and current production operations; analyze and implement various products, tools, and software, to improve operations’ productivity and quality; perform DOE and gage R&R on new or improved sensors, lasers or vision systems to validate Cp and CpK capability; train in house skilled trades on newly developed standards, equipment and technology and support troubleshoot said technologies as required; collaborate with CFTs to identify continuous risk reduction opportunities and implement corrective or preventative measures as required.

 

Required Skills & Experience

  • BS degree in Engineering or Computer Sciences and 5 years experience in manufacturing
  • Strong experience in the use of the internet of things, data analytics and management, industry 4.0 initatives, and vision systems
  • Expertise in improving productivity, quality and project management in a manufacturing operation
  • Hands on experience with process improvements and error proofing using vision systems and automated inspections
  • PLC and Controls logic and Robotic (Fanuc) programing is desirable
  • Knowledge and Skills in C++, javascript, or other programming languages are desirable
  • Demonstrated conceptual, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Strong Progarm management skills.  Able to lead and interact with cross fuctional team members to accomplish project tasks and goals.
  • Previous experience with CAD programs or viewers. (i.e. Solidworks, UG, Catia, AutoCad, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Engineering and Quality practices and procedures including PPAP, blueprint reading, GD&T, use of measuring instruments, Gage R&R, checking aids/fixtures, mechanical testing, etc.
  • Strong organizational, planning, written, and verbal communication skills.

Additional Information

.  A valid Driver’s License is required for day travel with the occasional overnight stay.  A valid passport which allows the Engineer to travel to attend customer and potential integrator/supplier meetings is necessary.  Some same day travel and overtime may be required to meet customer expectations.  Requires excellent communication skills, both verbal and written and some of the information in-process can be considered confidential.  The Development and Industry 4.0 Engineer works in an office environment but may be exposed to some elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant. Ability to work flexible hours in a fast-paced environment with a variable workload in order to meet customer requirements.
