About the Role

The Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for the development and maintenance of the Health & Safety, and Ergonomic Programs and Systems for the benefit of all employees, contractors, and visitors.  The incumbent will provide guidance and support to CBAM’s leadership team to ensure implementation and compliance to all health, safety, ergonomic and environmental standards, and legislative requirements.  The Health and Safety Specialist has the authority to stop work, behaviours, or acts which are in contradiction of legislated regulations and/or Magna compliance. 

Your Responsibilities

  • Effectively works to resolve issues and communicate information pertaining to employee concerns with respect to a Safe and Healthful workplace responsibilities and issues.
  • Acts as a resource/consultant to all Leaders to ensure the fair and reasonable implementation and interpretation of governmental legislation, and divisional/Magna policies and procedures.
  • Works with contractors to ensure compliance in environmental/health and safety policy and procedures.
  • Reports on aspects of the health and safety management system to the Health and Safety Manager and/or management team, i.e., corrective actions, continuous improvement programs.
  • Assists the HS Manager to manage the health and safety legislative compliance and acts as a liaison with government agencies and corporate, in the interest of the company’s health and safety/environmental affairs.

Who we are looking for

Someone with:

  • Degree in Health & Safety, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five year's experience in automotive or manufacturing industry.
  • Understanding of plant operations as it relates to Health, Safety, Ergonomic and Environmental requirements.
  • Strong organizational, planning, written and verbal communication skills, with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with flexible hours and a variable workload.

Your preferred qualifications

  • Degree Health & Safety, or equivalent work experience.
  • Three to five year's experience in automotive or manufacturing industry.
  • Excellent math skills with the ability to apply cost and analyze data.
  • Excellent computer skills with high level of competency in Microsoft Excel and Powerpoint.
