Role Summary

Performs other duties as necessary which includes additional responsibility at higher levels.  Work may involve irregular work schedules and exposure to chemicals, high voltage from electrostatic equipment, loud noise, hazardous waste, heavy, moving equipment/machinery, and/or work in high places and confined spaces.  Changes molds, dies, or fixtures in accordance with local procedures which may include minor tool repair and/or insert changes.  Documents changes and adjusts processes and/or involves appropriate resources to make adjustments outside of parameters. Performs start-up and shut-down of molding machines and ensures that all sub systems (i.e., water, dryers, heaters, robots, computers, etc.) are operational. Assists and/or performs maintenance on equipment in respective areas of responsibility including; molding machines, robots, hydraulic pumps, gauges, heaters, and other auxiliary equipment.  Performs housekeeping duties and maintains facilities including cleaning, organizing, disposal of grease/fluids, etc.  Ensures that raw materials supporting the molding function are made available in accordance with procedures which may involve operating a hi-lo.  May perform various material handling duties as requested including; delivering materials to the line and removing/installing molds. Performs quality inspection of parts after changeovers to ensure quality standards/guidelines are met.  Visually checks parts against process control sheets.  Communicates with appropriate personnel regarding performance of machines/equipment in assigned area and to verify changeovers and/or schedule changes.

Key Responsibilities

Performs all duties listed above with emphasis on complex troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analyzing. Works with Engineering and Skilled Trades personnel on product launches.  Establishes process parameters for manufacturing engineering and determines appropriateness of variances to process parameters.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  1. High School diploma or equivalent with the ability to learn quickly.  Basic math/reading skills including using decimals, fractions, geometry, etc. Three years related work experience including mold/tool repair; or equivalent.
  2. Demonstrated mechanical aptitude (i.e. to perform set-up of equipment, etc.) with ability to read and interpret blueprints/schematics. Demonstrated problem solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot processes and equipment.
  3. Knowledge of materials used in processes with a Hi-lo license or ability to obtain a hi-lo license to move materials, equipment, etc. High degree of manual dexterity with the ability to lift 40 pounds or more to change molds and tools, move materials, machines, etc.
  4. Good communication and interaction skills to interact with internal contacts with the ability to work without direct supervision.
  5. Basic knowledge of computers, equipment, tools, and paperwork associated with job including thorough understanding of standard work, in-process control sheets, and customer driven quality requirements.
  6. Strong project management skills to work on projects independently under minimal work direction.
