About the Role

This position is accountable to plan and implement the introduction of new assembly machine controls and software and improvements to existing machine control systems.

Your Responsibilities

•    Develop, implement and maintain standards for controls, programming and software throughout the assembly operations and at sub-supplier locations.
•    Investigate and implement sensor methodologies to improve detection methods to increase equipment speed sand enhance mistake proofing.
•    Investigate, experiment and implement (with approvals) controls and programming changes to improve productivity and mistake proofing on an ongoing bases.
•    Compile a documentation history of all software applications by work cell, establish, and maintain a revision control system.
•    Provide technical data and documentation to support capital justification for new controls hardware and software.
•    Assist maintenance in troubleshooting and problem solving of controls and programming as required.
•    Provide technical support for an integrated information system that links shop floor activities (i.e. quality, productivity, etc.) to management information system.
•    Work with production and maintenance mechanics to ensure maximum up time and efficiency of production equipment
•    Ensure proper electrical repairs to production equipment, plant equipment and plant facilities
•    Program PLC’s for equipment to ensure safe operation and correct sequencing for error proofing and machine cycle time optimization
•    Reprogram PLC’s on engineering changes as per directed instructions from engineering or supervision
•    Ensure equipment is wired clearly and as per latest safety standards
•    Provide technical support for assembly operations LAN
•    Act as a technical contact (controls, software, and programming) for vendors.
•    Monitor vendors through build and programming phases to ensure Dortec general assembly and test equipment technical specifications are met.
•    Participate at design and final sign of level for new equipment purchases.
•    Perform basic wiring and panel construction as required. 
•    Assist in commissioning new equipment during program launches
•    Help build new assembly stations by wiring panels and programming PLC’s
•    Assist when necessary, on any mechanical projects to help achieve timeliness
•    Perform all job functions in a safe and healthful manner, abiding by all Health, Safety and Housekeeping rules and regulations
•    Must be aware of relevance and importance of their activities and how it effects quality and the environment for our customers
•    Provides own tools as required
•    Perform other duties as required
 

Who we are looking for

We are looking for someone who is passionate about mechatronics and controls engineering. Someone who loves to troubleshoot robotic issues and has extensive PLC programming knowledge and experience. 

Your preferred qualifications

  • 3 to 5 years of work related experience
  • CAN and CAN FD Communication protocol knowledge is required
  • Knowledge of CANoe Vector Programming
  • 3 to 5 years' experience robotic programming and troubleshooting
  • 3 to 5 years experience with PLC programming
  • Knowledge of Labview and Labwindows is an asset
  • LAN/WAN experience
  • Visual Basic, C++ knowledge required
