Role Summary

The Production Supervisor is responsible for providing effective supervision and leadership to all Assembly Operators, Team Leaders and Line Loaders while ensuring all production objectives and schedules are met in accordance with quality and safety standards. They are also responsible for the implementation of continuous improvement changes in the production process.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce and encourage both standardized work and one-piece flow.
  • Lead, mentor and coach Team Leader(s) on process, training and development, and employee relations. 
  • Participate in the daily scrap walk.
  • Review scrap daily and sign off with the Team addressing areas, where needed.
  • Ensure that employees are conducting proper pre-shift inspections of their workstations.
  • Maintain safe work practices according to regulations under the OHSA (ie. workplace inspections, SEWOs, correct safe acts or conditions, training of new employees). 
  • Initiate SEWO and assist with back to work plan with Modified Work Employees. 
  • Direct the utilization and use of all machinery and equipment involved in assembly production activities. 
  • Ensure materials are delivered on time to the work centres to meet production requirements. 
  • Maintain records of available components/parts and movement/storage of work in process.
  • Monitor inventory levels for finished goods and purchased components.
  • Review key resets at end of shift and reconcile to number of parts rejected.
  • Maintain employee records including time keeping, absenteeism, overtime records and performance reviews. 
  • Work with HR to create performance improvement plans as required.
  • Oversee the assignment and distribution of overtime in fair manner and in accordance with policy.
  • Analyze Overall Availability (OA) of work centres and plan necessary actions to improve them.
  • Identify bottlenecks and provide actions and ideas for improvements.
  • Maintain communication with assembly operators and listen to continuous improvement suggestions.
  • Encourage Assembly Operators participation in the GROW program.
  • Maintain up-to-date CPR and First-Aid, Entrapment Procedure, and Fire Evacuation training, for use in emergency response situations. 
  • Ensure the escalation process is followed.
  • Follow through with Engineering changes in Production.
  • Conduct hourly performance reviews as per schedule and in a timely manner.
  • Monitor floor layout and organization.
  • Track non-standard hours to try and isolate reduction activities. 
  • Assist in the implementation of continuous improvement objectives.
  • Provide input and make recommendations regarding investigations and employee corrective actions. Keep all comments documented and escalate to HR as required. 
  • Assist in changeover SMED improvements.
  • Promote the Great Eyes program, record and acknowledge employee contributions. 
  • Implement and coordinate 5S activities with delegated Team (zone champions).
  • Complete any quality and NCR Dispositions as required.
  • Ensure NCR Procedure is followed and that it includes Quarantine Cage Procedure.
  • Fill out Sensor By-Pass Log as applicable, initiate QC101 as required.
  • Cross reference ADP to time sheets and the attendance log. 
  • Approve vacation requests as per Company policy. 
  • Investigate stock loss terms when required.
  • Comply with IATF 16949 and MAFACT policies and procedures.
  • Must comply with all ISO 14001 (Environmental) and OHSAS 18001 (Health and Safety) systems and standards as it pertains to work.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Team Leader in the Manufacturing Industry. 
  • Minimum of 2 years' experience in Production Supervising/Management role. 
  • Prior experience in a fast-paced Automotive Manufacturing Environment.
  • Ability to lead, coach, develop and mentor employees.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to lead organizational initiatives and changes. 
  • Excellend problem-solving, time management, delegation and organizational skills. 
  • Continuous improvement or process improvement experience. 
  • Shop floor reporting system experience is required (Outlook, Microsoft Office, Trans4M, ShopLogix).
  • Ability to build and maintain strong business relationships. 
  • Exposure to IATF16949 standards is an asset. 
  • Strong understanding of production processes.
  • Flexibility to cover alternative shifts and work weekend overtime as required.
  • First Aid Certification is an asset. 
  • Ability to effectively manage emergency situations as required. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage interpersonal conflict.
  • Proactive in identifying safety hazards and resolving them.
