Senior CNC & Machine Shop Technician

Role Summary

On permanent afternoon shift, works independently to set-up, program and operate CNC Machining Centers and operate all standard machine shop equipement as required.

Key Responsibilities


•    Responsible for CNC programming, set-up and operations

•    Responsible for maintenance of CNC Milling machines
•    Provide CAD/CAM support to the personnel in the prototype shop as required
•    Provide light assembly work
•    Maintain an appropriate level of tooling and cutters in inventory for CNC equipment
•    Operate standard machine shop equipment (i.e manual mills, lathes, drill presses, grinders)
•    Fabricate parts, tooling and fixtures from print or CAD data according to a given deadline
•    Provide mentorship for junior technicians
•    Complete required reports/documents
•    Report in a timely manner all shortages, lack of resources and problems that may occur
•    Report labour hours accurately
•    Work safely and promotes a safe environment 
•    Maintain a clean and organized work area at all times
•    Follow all department & company rules and procedures
•    Follows Magna’s Code of Conduct & Ethics and related compliance policies
•    Perform other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

•    Minimum completion of a college or Trade School diploma with machine shop courses
•    3-5 years CNC programming and machining experience

•    Experience with programming, set-up, operating, and modifying CNC programs using SolidWorks and CamWorks 
•    CAD/CAM and machine shop experience 
•    Ability to read and understand drawings
•    Working knowledge of GD&T
•    Good written and oral communication skills
•    Ability to work independently and as a team to complete projects
•    Ability to work in a timely and efficient manner
•    Good computer skills (Microsoft Office)
•    Requires lifting and manipulation of small blocks of steel
