About the Role

Engineering Technician will be responsible for a variety of tasks related to Customer’s fleet of engineering vehicles.  Technician must have a strong mechanical, pneumatic & electrical aptitude and be able to diagnose, repair and replace a variety of often delicate components.  Technician will work closely with engineers and other technicians, collaborating, and communicating in a fast-paced environment.  Confidentiality is mandatory.

Your Responsibilities

•    Frequently work with cross-functional teams of engineers and designers to implement and/or integrate new and developing systems.
•    Lead and perform design, fabricating, assembling, testing, deploying, repairing, troubleshooting various testing rigs and systems integrated into and/or independent of electric and autonomous vehicles.  
•    Diagnose and repair OEM base vehicle systems and components using manufacturer-provided software and tools; specializing in CAN, LIN, and FlexRay.
•    Lead interposer and thermal instrumentation integration project(s): review/understand requirements, schematics, layouts specified; raise issues/concerns, provide solutions as applicable for Customer buyoff.
•    Diagnose, support, and troubleshoot electrical / electronic system faults
•    Support diagnosis and troubleshooting mechanical issues (pneumatic, hydraulic, hardware)
•    Harness build/development based on schematics and specifications provided.  
•    Complete tasks outside of established processes when necessary and propose/implement creative solutions to unforeseen roadblocks.
•    Complete reports, procedures, and tests to collect data for engineering team.
•    Assemble electrical and electronic systems and prototypes when assigned/required
•    Adjust and replace defective circuitry and electronic components
•    Build terminals, circuit boards, including use of shop equipment for small fabrication
•    Use and navigate a computer/laptop in order to access sites/portals, databases, and documentation for recording build data, reports, training, and other information.
•    Support scheduled platform build events and projects, as needed.
•    Service and troubleshooting of self-driving systems, components, and integrated sensor stacks using internal proprietary tools.
•    Perform Customer self-driving system software updates as assigned in Carman to maintain vehicle fleet readiness.
•    Perform vehicle flashing and diagnosis using various PC software’s, as well as using Google Suite, CAD, and other online resources to update work orders, fill out spreadsheets, and provide reports to the appropriate teams.
•    Support removal, installation, repair and/or replacement of wiring harnesses
•    Perform, with the use of power tools, modifications to vehicle sheet metal and plastic components, including A-surface components.
•    Use torque-verification tooling and record data points where required.
•    Removal, installation, repair and/or replacement of various hose systems (i.e. thermal, fluid, pneumatic).
•    Support and lead assembly and/or rework of hose assemblies and components based on Customer-provided schematics and drawings.
•    Support maintenance of Customer fleet of self-driving vehicles including cleanings, inspections, and proprietary component replacements/upfits.
•    Use of forklift as required

Who we are looking for

•    5+ years experience in an automotive research/development environment (vehicle prototypes)
•    Strong automotive electrical understanding including: electric/hybrid vehicle experience, High Voltage electrical knowledge
•    Strong technical and mechanical ability
•    Familiar with wide range of electrical tools, concepts and methods (i.e. multimeter, short-to-ground, etc.)
•    Strong diagnostic troubleshooting experience with OEM systems: strong experience working with vehicle communication systems (i.e., CAN, FlexRay, LIN)
•    Ability to service and repair vehicle subsystems, including but not limited to:  HVAC, cooling, chassis, electrical, brakes and suspension.
•    Ability to adhere to a schedule of operating times for the assigned shift including, but not limited to, working on holidays, weekends, nights, and overtime as needed. 
•    Experience working in a matrix organization, thrives working in a rapidly changing and evolving environment, both independently and with cross functional teams.
•    Minor fabrication experience 
•    Experience with instrumentation (Pressure Transducers, Thermo-couples, Flow-meters, etc.)
•    Able to use vehicle hoist(s) for service, builds, repairs
•    Good computer skills (Microsoft Office, Google Suite, basic Windows/Chrome OS)
•    Demonstrate flexibility and open-mindedness.
•    Valid driver license with clean record 
•    Must be willing and able to travel on short notice to support fleet needs - could be up to 15% of the time.

Your preferred qualifications

•    4+ years experience as a shop lead/master tech.
•    5+ years experience in an automotive research/development environment.
•    2+ years experience working with ADAS systems and/or other self-driving systems preferred.
•    Ability to operate comfortably within and troubleshoot Linux based systems, as well as other online / cloud-based programs and interfaces)
•    Excellent multi-tasking.
•    Diagnostic experience with embedded modules, self-driving systems, and sensor stacks.
•    High School Diploma or equivalent.
•    Associates Degree preferred.
