Role Summary

The post holder will partner with Senior Management to address all generalist HR issues that arise in their areas whilst ensuring the Magna Fair Enterprise Culture, and the commitments in the Magna Employee’s Charter are consistently implemented.

The HR Manager will be responsible for supervising the workload and development of the HR department and liaison with the local Works Councils. Administers full range of employee related services in the area of Human Resources and provides customer service to all employees concerning personnel policies, procedures and employee related services. Consults managers in employee and labor law related matters. Functional interface to Group HR in Germany. Reporting to the General Manager of the plant.

Key Responsibilities

Pro-actively coach managers to address all people-related matters by giving practical guidance and advice including:

  • Employee relations issues, create a culture where employees are engaged, issues are dealt with promptly and fairly (in line with the Fair Enterprise Culture), absence management, disciplinary matters, redundancies.
  • Reward issues ensuring compliant and fair salaries and benefits (supporting The Magna Employee’s Charter commitment to Competitive Wages and Benefits).
  • Recruiting new employees, to ensure we bring the best possible people into the business.
  • Enable managers to drive a high performing culture through performance management and development processes.
  • Identify and support talent development programs and promote an entrepreneur culture.  
  • Prepare for and participate in internal and external audits.
  • Supervise the HR team to achieve team objectives, provide guidance and ensure best practice.
  • Key resource in the implementation of our new global HRIS Workday.
  • Ensure safety and housekeeping practices.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Diploma/Certification in Human Resources OR post-secondary education in business, human resources or related field
  • Bachelor’s or Master's Degree in Human Resource related field preferred
  • 5+ Years of experience in progressive Human Resources roles, preferably in a manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communications skills in Spanish and English; articulate speaker and an effective listener.
  • Demonstrated ability to coach managers; facilitate discussion enabling managers to think of ways to get the best out of their team.
  • Proficient with MS Office, Outlook & HRIS Software (i.e. Workday, SAP)
  • Knowledge of Human Resources practices and principles
  • Comprehensive understanding of local employment legislation and its application


Work Environment

The work environment is primarily office and includes manufacturing plant. The individual must be able to perform all essential functions as appropriate on the plant floor, in meetings, and with employees, management, customers and suppliers. Flexible/additional hours as required.
