The Validation Engineer is responsible for the management of all validation activities as defined by Magna Lighting. The VE is the voice to internal Magna management as well as the customer for all validation topics throughout the program development process.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Validation testing for Advanced products and Production products
    • Responsible for all validation correspondence internally to Magna, and to the customer.
    • Manage all validation activities, providing the link from the customer to the labs
    • Create validation plans (ADVPR) and work with customers for approvals
    • Modify and update ADVPR throughout the program validation phase, to include tests for lamp level, component level and Electronics level
    • Modify and update internal Magna Test Tracker throughout the program validation phase
    • Document test incident reports (TIR’s) and drive the core team through actions required to close the issue
    • Document any corrective actions (CAR’s), and provide support where needed to drive to closure.
    • Perform Lamp Dissection and Analysis (LDA) of tested lamps to determine failure modes or areas of poor performance
  • Manage the procurement process for all validation fixtures needed to perform the various tests
    • Determine fixture applicability for each new lamp validation. Review award of program to ensure all fixtures are accounted for in the budget
    • Create RFQ’s for supplier quoting. Use CAD to understand lamp designs and fixture concepts
    • Select chosen suppliers and complete Purchase Order process
    • Manage all design reviews – both internally and with supplier. Obtain customer design approvals for applicable fixtures
    • Manage the timing plans for all fixtures – from quoting to lab delivery
    • Work closely with Dimensional team (CMM Lab) to ensure all fixtures are Magna certified. Manage discussions between Magna Lab and Supplier for any out of tolerance conditions
    • Complete the Lab Hand Off form and obtain all necessary signatures
    • As needed, design small fixtures when timing is critical
    • Create and update Magna Lighting fixture standards as needed

Other Responsibilities

  • PDP and Business Protocol Adherence
  • Meet all commitments – confront and escalate issues timely.
  • Proven track record in performance and attendance in current position.
  • Able to focus on and support the validation engineering process, ensuring high levels of product integrity.
  • Able to effectively communicate program activity to Validation Engineers and other team members when deemed necessary
  • Other Validation Engineering duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial / Mechanical Engineering (or related field), or Diploma in Industrial / Mechanical Engineering Technology (or related field). Work experience will be considered if applicant does not meet educational qualifications.
  • At least 10 years of experience in the automotive manufacturing engineering environment
  • At least 5 years of experience in both of the following CAD programs: NX (Unigraphics) & Catia


  • Proficiency in solid modeling CAD (NX & Catia)
  • Proficiency in computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc…)
  • Ability to efficiently work in a fast-paced team environment.
  • Strong understanding of dimensional systems and analysis.
  • Effective communication (written & verbal) with various departments within Magna Lighting and with customer as required.
  • Organization of documentation, records, time, priority setting and deadlines.
  • Self-Motivated, ability to initiate and follow tasks through to completion.
  • Knowledge of various processes (i.e. molding, coating, assembly etc.)
  • Knowledge of basic concepts of metrology and instrumentation.
  • Able to travel and work flexible hours to accommodate international Customers.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Problem solving related to manufacturing
  • Strong Presentation skills

Physical Demands – Ability to move around on the production floor; Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach.  Required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature. Ability to lift max. 50lbs periodically.
