The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the General Accounting Department. 

 

The following is a more detailed list of the Controller’s responsibilities.

  • Cash flow Management – meeting the specified A/R and A/P days measurables.
  • Oversee the implementation of divisional accounting.
  • Manage the long-term forecast process.
  • Work with Department Managers on budget preparation.
  • Build budget models.
  • Initial Capital Project proposal evaluation;
  • Post capital payback verification.
  • Complete the annual standard cost verification.
  • Investigate standard cost variances, and provide an annual standard cost evaluation.
  • Provide job-costing evaluation.
  • Quality verification of monthly financial statements.
  • Oversee preparation of Corporate Insurance renewal information.
  • Manage scientific research and experimental development tax credit process.
  • Identify specific part number level cost reduction initiatives.
  • Manage vendor risk process/customer risk process.
  • Oversee preparation for R.O.I./R.O.S. models.
  • Manage open P.O. issues with customers.
  • Implement improvements to fixed asset reporting.
  • Execute internal audit governance.
  • Manage external audit.
  • Identify information system inadequacies and identify solutions.
  • Meet budgetary spending targets for the departmental cost centre
  • Ensure that quality standards are communicated and enforced within the department.
  • Ensure that safety standards are communicated and enforced within the department
  • Ensure that training requirements for each departmental employee are identified and plans are in place to close any gaps.
  • Ensure that environmental standards are identified, communicated and enforced within the department.
  • Initiate, where required, employee counseling and disciplinary action.
  • Perform a minimum of one yearly performance evaluation for each departmental employee.
  • Maintain housekeeping standards within the department.
  • Ensure the fair administration of all company policies including wage and benefit packages.
  • Ensure the efficient execution of responsibilities as outlined in the job descriptions for each position within the department.

 

General Points

  • Ensure that all environmental requirements are identified and addressed when performing duties.
  • Ensure that all safety requirements are being carried out when performing duties.
  • Comply with defined Business Management and Environmental Management Systems requirements.
  • Provide support for the continuous improvement initiatives within Techform.
  • Provide support in the attainment of Techform's operating system goals as outlined by the key graphs.
  • Carry out all duties focusing on the goal of internal and external customer satisfaction.
  • Other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor or designate.

 

 

HEALTH & SAFETY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follow the duties and responsibilities specified under the Occupational Health & Safety Act
  • Ensure all safety and non-safety rules and regulations are followed.
  • Ensure adherence to established safety, quality and housekeeping standards.
  • Attends Environmental Health and Safety training
  • Adhere to Magna Closures and Techform health and safety, environmental, and quality standards, policies and procedures
  • Report any known  hazard, defect, incident or compliance issue to the employer or supervisor
  • Understand  BILL 168 and uphold the policies that prohibit  domestic violence, workplace violence and harassment in the Workplace

 

Qualifications

  • A post-secondary degree in an accounting or business-related discipline
  • Completion of a CMA, CA or similar designation
  • 2+ years in an accounting/finance or commercial management position
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
