About the Role

Under the direction of the Assistant General Manager, the Paint Manager has overall responsibility to ensure systems and processes are developed and implemented to produce quality painted or coated parts on time and as cost effectively as possible. To provide assistance to the supervisor and production teams in a way that supports the Magna Charter, Corporate Constitution, and customers, investors, and employees.  He/she will support the Supervisors, Team Leaders and Team Members by providing guidance and tools they need in order to be safe and productive. The Paint Manager has responsibility for all aspects of running the Department including but not limited to maintaining production standards to ensure that the parts required are produced to spec and on time.  The Paint Manager will assure that the quality standards are being met and that only quality parts are produced and released for shipment. The Paint Manager is responsible to ensure that all team members perform work daily per our health and safety, quality, customer cost, productivity, and handbook by using the company policies and procedures and the Magna Employee’s Charter as a guideline. The Paint Manager must observe daily that the team the team is following the processes and work instructions, as well as facilitating the training needed to perform work effectively. The Paint Manager is responsible to sustain and improve all key aspects of S/Q/D/C/M (Safety – Quality – Delivery – Cost – Morale) by managing and leading the team through continuous improvement.

Your Responsibilities

  1. Builds and Leads a World Class Manufacturing Team.
  2. Coaches and develops both the technical acumen and people skills of his/her team.
  3. Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and policies.
  4. Follows and supports and Magna’s operating principles, including:
  5. Follow, comply and enforce all operational procedures/policies as stated in the employee Environmental Health and Safety programs (Magna and OSHA Standards). 
  6. Develops and implements objectives for areas of responsibility.
  7. Ensures safe production processes are developed that can produce quality parts in a cost-effective manner.
  8. Directs development and implementation of quality systems to ensure products produced meet customers’ quality requirements.
  9. Assists direct reports by coaching, counseling, motivating, and providing technical support as necessary.

Who we are looking for

  • B.S. or B.A. or equivalent paint and/or coating experience.
  • 5 or more years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • 5 or more years of coating/painting experience OR 8 or more years of experience in a relevant technical field (plating, chemistry, etc.).

Your preferred qualifications

  • Must have experience with SPC principles and application, employee empowerment, supplier management, customer interface.
  • Must have good computer skills. 
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Strong understanding of paint or coating systems.
  • Working understanding of wastewater treatment systems.
  • Good understanding of applying chemistry principles.
