Key Responsibilities

 

  • Under the guidance of Product /Resident/Integration engineers, builds models of lamps or subsystems and tests them. Models include:
  • Proof of concept lamp models for verifying designs that are still in development phase. These lamps are typically made of poured Urethane or SLAs and where necessary are fitted with plaques of production intent materials. Often, these lamps contain circuit boards that are modified from existing product or are populated from blank boards.
  • Verification models for improvements to lamps. These are lamps/components that are already off production tooling which are modified via mechanical, electrical or process modifications/additions. Typical improvements are in the fields of temperature, vibration, pressure, condensation, processing (molding, coating etc.) optical-electronics integration and manufacturability.
  • Best Practice models, where different variables are analyzed on lamps, components or processes to establish to most effective way of doing things.
  • Assists in building first production parts into design verification lamps and scrutinizes them for any potential design issues.
  • Builds electrical layouts/harnesses for customer electrical test bench requirements.
  • Assists Product / R&D engineers with the root cause investigations into field or test failures.
  • Supervises model shop and maintains it in high level of 5S and safety and replenishes consumable supplies.
  • Assists or leads in the physical correction of issues in pre-production builds.
  • Assists Product / R&D Engineers in general day to day duties.
  • May lead the design and construction (or outsourcing) of photometric and vibration test fixtures.
  • Perform teardown analysis of new technology lamps
  • Coordinate the Benchmark storage area and lab area.
  • Coordinate 3D printers and perform printing as needed.
  • Investigate New Lighting Trends and Technologies for Automotive Industry
  • Create Competitor and OEM Bios via Benchmarking
  • Be technical liaison for lighting trends
  • Assist with various tasks, as required
Key Qualifications/Requirements

 

  • Diploma in mechanical/manufacturing engineering technology and/or hands-on experience with creating mechanical/electrical systems, especially automotive related.
  • Hands-on experience working with plastics, sheet metal.
  • Hands-on experience populating printed circuit boards.
  • Experience in testing and report writing.
  • Familiarity with 3D CAD (especially Catia or UG).
  • Microsoft Office required.
  • PLC programming would be an asset.

Physical Demands – Ability to move around an office environment and on the production floor; Ability to work at a computer workstation; Ability to bend, twist, lift, reach. Required to carry out job duties and responsibilities in a work environment that may include, but is not limited to, varying levels of noise and/or temperature. Ability to lift max. 50lbs periodically.
