General Responsibilities
  • Manage the Optical Design functions within the Lighting Group                        
  • Work closely with Sales and Program Management Teams to ensure alignment to customer needs.
  • Stay current with the latest product Technology and Development tools and software            
  • Effective resource planning based on Program Awards and longer term project awards (contract versus full time)
  • Support New Technology and VAVE initiatives which are in process
  • Monitor Design and Engineering Costs against budget allotments driving effectiveness of direct reports.    
  • Align concepts to Manufacturing capabilities and escalate if alignment is not present.            
  • Provide on-going feedback to Direct Reports as it relates to performance against expectations (positive and/or improvement opportunities).                                        
  • Extremely detail oriented, going above and beyond specific product design to include system interfaces.

In addition to the general requirements of regional Optical Managers, the Global Lead for Optical Engineering will also have the below responsibilities:                                                    

  • Gather and read/across Lessons learned
  • Develop and implement best practices, standards, job descriptions, and forms according to discipline
  • Establish discipline tasks for PDP
  • Plan and lead training as well as software/tools/equipment benchmarking                
  • Continually check correlation of simulations to tests and improve accuracy via the above
  • Host multiple ‘Technology Day Presentations’ across all Engineering regions to communicate updates and changes to larger Engineering group    
  • Assist Local managers with performance review feedback and development plan suggestions
  • Lead multi-region support of projects. Where we split team members across regions, the Engineering Lead will manage         
  • 10+ years in an Automotive / Automotive Supply Base Engineering environment with progressive advancement in terms of knowledge and responsibilities.                            
  • Technical background with an Engineering Degree and/or significant Product Management experience.
  • Experience in an Integrated Product Development Team.
  • Software product management experience in electronic communications
  • Knowledge and understanding of Optics and Optics applications as it relates to Automotive Lighting.
  • Strong knowledge of Global Lighting Regulations and Homologation requirements (ECE, SAE, CCC)
  • Keen familiarity with various Optical Simulation Programs (Speos, LucidShape,  etc…)
  • Knowledge of Problem Solving methods (Red X, Six Sigma,  8D, etc…)
  • Full knowledge of Engineering simulation tools and interpretation of simulation data.
  • Understanding of GD&T                                 
  • Full understanding of Design for Manufacturability (DFM)                            
  • Effective verbal, written, and presentation skills in English 
  • Regular communications and interactions with Customers (current and New Business Opportunities).
