Key Responsibilities


  • Responsible for all Electronic Engineering activities for production programs, including but not limited to:
    • Electronic design changes
    • Create Electronic and EMC test plans and obtain approvals from customers
    • Validation testing and troubleshooting test issues
    • Review of test reports and obtaining customer approvals
  • Support all pre-production programs as follows:
    • Manage the electronic / EMC testing and report out on all test issues. Create Test Incident Reports (TIR’s) where needed and support team in root cause analysis.
    • Support the Electronics Engineer with validation fixture procurement, where required
  • Coordinating testing with Laboratories for pre and post launch programs
  • Key technical interface with customers’ design engineers for production programs. Coordinate and conduct regular design reviews with designers, electrical engineers related to post launch programs.
  • Effectively communicate design direction with the project team and the customer, suppliers, manufacturing and quality communities with support from engineering management as required Maintains all appropriate documentation such as Design Open Issues List, meeting minutes, BOMs.
  • Ensures compliance of product with regulatory requirements (FMVSS108, UNECE regs, etc.), customer specifications and Magna lighting best practices and work instructions
  • Create detailed SORs for testing and outsourcing of electronic manufacturing
  • Development of analog, digital circuitry, power electronics and embedded software for automotive exterior lighting
  • Be the Main point of contact for electrical designs. Interface with cross-functional departments, suppliers and customer with respect to electronic product development, validations and manufacturing
  • Project management of sourced electronic designs
  • Management of cost, and quality of electronic products
  • Develop and test clinical prototypes to ensure design intent and specifications are satisfied
  • Develop PCB layouts for production designs using appropriate PCB technologies
  • Ensure layouts meet EMC requirements
  • Conducting Schematic level circuit simulation for continuous improvement of designs
  • Develop methods and practices to effectively manage data and, revision control for electrical and software designs
  • Deliver and Manage the required documentations i.e. BOM, 3D Cad, drawings and prototypes to product development team 
  • Support Design for manufacturing reviews per PDP process
  • Create, support and realize benchmark activity linked to electrical designs
  • Create and maintain, component and footprint libraries in Altium
  • Hands-on approach to proving out concepts and trouble shooting
  • Manages and rapidly rectifies test incidents that arise from the design of the part
  • Independently prioritizes the completion of tasks and resolution of issues to ensure compliance to program deliverables
  • Other duties as assigned
Key Qualifications/Requirements


  • Post-Secondary diploma in Electronics Engineering or similar technical field required
  • Experience of 5+ years in electronics design with more than 2 years of experience designing electronic components for automotive lighting products required
  • Experience in the validation process of electronic components required
  • Experience with GM and FCA electronic validation process would be beneficial
  • Knowledge of Electronic manufacturing, quality and technical standards (IPC, ISO, etc.)
  • Clear understanding of ESD design and prevention
  • Experience designing for electromagnetic inference both radiated and conducted
  • Valid Driver's license and ability to travel between plants required
