Role Summary

Under the general direction of the Production Manager, the Assistant Production Manager works independently and confers regularly with inside and outside contacts to ensure successful implementation of programs & projects. The Assistant Production Manager position is to plan, organize and control production for their assigned shift to ensure that parts are produced efficiently, on time, within budget and to standard. Responsible for providing training and facilitating process improvements as needed to ensure World Class Manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible to provide communication and reporting of the Department/shift progress/results in achieving divisional goals; and the regular operation of the department
  • Manage and supervise production employees in a production environment
  • Manages the complete shift with Area Leaders, Team Leaders, and direct production employees
  • Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; interviewing, hiring, and training employees; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees
  • Be on call 24 hours per day for emergencies
  • Actively participate in the cross-management team in achieving world class performance in safety, quality, efficiency, and continuous improvement activities
  • Required to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the OSHA.   Follows and ensures the Company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout their assigned area
  • Ensures all Supervisors/Lead hands are adhering to all the above and problem-solving issues that arise in the area of safety and ergonomics
  • Be part of and promote the "One Team" spirit and culture
  • Follows and supports Magna's operating principles
  • Supports efforts to achieve department and plant goals on Employee Opinion Survey
  • Resolves personnel problems by analyzing data, investigating issues, identifying solutions, and recommending action

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Oversee shift production, maintenance, materials and quality groups making sure that products are produced on time and are of good quality. Escalating to proper staff when needed per escalation policy

  • Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; Looks for ways to improve and promote quality; Applies feedback to improve performance; Monitors own work to ensure quality. Create and maintain a world class standard for quality workmanship
  • Maintain a safe and healthful working environment where zero lost time injuries are expected standard of work by all employees
  • Follow and enforce all plant safety rules and procedures, promoting and practicing safety first policy, including housekeeping
  • Maintain a motivated and proud teamwork environment with ownership in workmanship. Encourage two-way, open and friendly attitudes at all times. Be approachable and listen to employees
  • Work out and implement standard Work Instructions for production operations and ensure that they are adhered to
  • Monitor the production processes and adjusting schedules as needed

Additional Information

  • Intermediate computer skills required
  • Ability to communicate with others, both verbal and written
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Able to prepare, read, write and interpret reports, instructions, procedures and business correspondence
  • Able to clearly and effectively respond to questions from management, employees, suppliers and customers
  • Able to manage and schedule multiple priorities and meet deadlines
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Degree in business administration, management, engineering, industrial technology or related field or combination of education and experience
  • Minimum of 7 years of automotive manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of supervisory experience desired
