Role Summary

Cosma provides a comprehensive range of body, chassis, battery enclosures and engineering solutions to global customers. Through our robust product engineering, outstanding tooling capabilities and diverse process expertise, we continue to bring lightweight and innovative products to market. This position is for a new greenfield facility in St. Clair, Michigan.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for project management of existing equipment/machinery/process changes/improvements
  • Supports setting project priorities 
  • Continuous improvement related to manufacturing/equipment/process functions 
  • Supporting developing and meeting departmental project budgets
  • Responsible for employee relations 
  • Development of engineering staff
  • Support selection of contractors
  • Assist in product selection as it pertains to controls design
  • Assist the maintenance department in the troubleshooting and repair of electrical problems as required.
  • Participation in pre-design reviews for new machinery
  • Maintain awareness of existing and emerging technologies in PLC, Robots, instrumentation, and computer systems
  • Provide training and guidance to maintenance personnel related to Controls, Robotics, Instrumentation and Computer systems
  • Attend training as required or as assigned
  • Ensures compliance to customer/legislated requirements
  • Supports short- and long-term vision for projects and equipment
  • Directly or indirectly oversees the functions of approximately 10 persons as well as contracted personnel 
  • Support business development quoting activities in line with the Divisions Business Plan
  • Frequently searches customer web sites or other sources of information to receive and communicate customer requirements to department managers or designate for review
  • Support Process and costing new jobs/engineering changes, through the quotation process including 
  • Orders supplies and deals with all sales personnel and subcontractors relating to department/plant activities
  • Other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Support outsourcing and follow-up of new and existing jobs
  • Supports department action plan and leads the team to achieve strategic goals and continuous improvement objectives in alignment with the Company’s Vision and Guiding Principles
  • Prepares and supports the budget planning process and takes responsibility to meet the financial targets
  • Promotes/recommends continuous improvement suggestions including environment, people, processes, and equipment/machinery
  • Participates in manpower requirements planning, overtime scheduling, and assists with capacity planning to meet future objectives
  • Effectively builds and fosters high preforming teams by ensuring teamwork within the department
  • Conducts and/or ensures that all Supervisors/Lead hands Investigate all non-conformance to 
  • Company polices/procedures/rules/regulations and apply the applicable corrective action. i.e. coaching, counselling and feedback documentation, discipline, performance management, etc.
  • Conducts performance reviews informally or formally as required and ensures performance reviews are completed for all employees
  • Ensures employees are trained or certified, as required and participates in training programs as required
  • Ensures subcontractors are performing work safely while in their work areas/zones when applicable
  • Works cooperatively with HR Health & Wellness to return employees (STD/Workers Compensation) to work under the Return-to-Work program and ensures the leaders within their area of responsibility monitor employees to ensure they work within their R-T-W plan
  • Required to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the OSHA
  • Follows and ensures the Company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout their assigned area

Additional Information

  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, financial, and time management skills
  • Strong understanding of Chassis assembly processes, APQP, PDP (CPMP), PPAP, GD&T, ergonomics, engineering practices, production experience, and other automotive related activities
  • Must possess knowledge and proven skills in one of the following: Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen 
  • Familiar with RSLogix5000, RSLinx, RSNetworx, FactoryTalk View, Bosch welding software and Roboguide
  • Knowledge of efficiency tracking, root cause analysis, and KPIs
  • Knowledge of electrical code (NEC and NFPA)
  • Competent with AutoCAD Electrical
  • Degree in Electrical Engineering 
  • 7 years in automotive / engineering environment or equivalent work / education experience.
  • Experience with Fanuc robots, and able to troubleshoot code & touch-up points
  • Experience applying machine safety requirements (ISO 12100 & 13849)
