Role Summary

Under the direction of the Engineering Manager, the Engineering Supervisor will Manage all employees in the Engineering Department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluations. Carries out responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement corrective actions for Safety, Quality, and Audits
  • Conduct accident / incident investigations
  • Lead and schedule the activates of the team members
  • Develop team members communication, time management, meeting facilitation skills through coaching and mentoring
  • Develop Engineering team members management skills of programs, projects, budgets and integrators
  • Establish and maintain effective communications with all departments
  • Promote accountability through application of the progressive discipline policy
  • Provide formal and informal performance feedback to Team Members (daily, Weekly, Yearly)
  • Facilitate regularly held department meetings to promote function and communication among team
  • Ensure training for team members as outlined on MEVS training matrix
  • Facilitate the cross functional training of team members to maximize flexibility within department
  • Monitor, track and improve upon KPI’s
  • Complete layered audits to include safety, standardize work, housekeeping and 5S
  • Demonstrate adaptability and flexibility to meet changing customer and business needs/demands
  • Applies World Class Manufacturing techniques and continuous improvement to the engineering functions including Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
  • Investigate new technologies for feasibility and promote ideas to enable our company to gain cost competitiveness over our compaction
  • Know and understand process documentation and customer specific requirements as they relate to this job function
  • Solicit and implement Continuous Improvement ideas
  • Participate in “best practice” events to share “things gone right” and “things gone wrong” with other divisions within Magna and Cosma
  • Participate in manpower planning and recruiting
  • Follow and comply with all operational procedures and policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e. TS16949, ISO 14001)
  • Adhere to MEVS core values; integrity, respect, trust, honesty, fairness and loyalty
  • Lead Engineering team members in accordance with the principals of the Magna Employee’s Charter and the policies and procedures set out in the company Handbook 
  • Perform Other duties as required

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in engineering within an automotive or related manufacturing industry
  • Engineering Degree/Diploma or equivalent combination of education and applicable work related experience
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Effective verbal and written communication
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Ability to uphold confidentiality
  • Ability to work and adapt in a fast paced environment
  • Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to work overtime to as required
  • Implements 5S principles and in still’s pride in their team to keep their work area clean and tidy.

Additional Information


  • Must possess strong interpersonal, communication, problem solving, financial, and time management skills. 
  • Strong understanding of BIW and/or Chassis assembly processes, APQP, PDP (CPMP), PPAP, GD&T, ergonomics, engineering practices, production experience, and other automotive related activities.


  • The Assistant Engineering Manager works in an office environment but may be exposed to some elements such as temperature and noise during time spent in the plant. 


  • Computer, telephone, copier/printer 
  • Computer proficiency including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project) and literacy in CAD


  • Must possess knowledge and proven skills in one of the following: Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen 
  • Strong understanding of BIW and/or Chassis assembly processes, APQP, PDP (CPMP), PPAP, GD&T, ergonomics, engineering practices, production experience, and other automotive related activities.


  • Degree in Engineering (or Engineering Technology Diploma may be considered)
  • A certificate or diploma in Project Management is preferred.


  • A minimum of ten (10) years’ experience in an engineering capacity
  • Minimum of five (5) years of program management experience required (or significant project management experience or leadership/management experience may be considered)


  • Must have a valid driver’s license and passport
