Role Summary


Responsible for integrating all domains related to the car of the future including the responsibility for European OEMs. In addition, Senior Manager, Advanced Body Functions EU, Corporate R&D, will be an integral part of the development of a global Magna technology road map, in alignment with the Magna Product Groups.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities


  • Leads the areas for Advanced Body Functions for the Car of the Future which includes domains like body structure, closures, HV battery tray, seating, body sensors & controls etc.  with a key focus on defining, developing, and evaluating the product and technologies considering functionality, quality, timing, and cost.
  • Leads the technical discussion with the OEMs representing Magna for all domains related to body functions.
  • Leads the ideation process, identifies gaps and opportunities in advanced vehicle systems, products, and technologies to guide advanced technology targets.
  • Develops a working environment aimed at partnering with the product groups to leverage the product innovations to the targeted scale.
  • Develops, evaluates, and implements advanced key technologies in the targeted building block areas considering competitive landscape, intellectual property rights, and conformation for technical feasibility, manufacturing feasibility and financial feasibility.
  • Supports the team to screen automotive industry trends related to advanced body functions.
  • Supports the team to develop a flexible and innovative process from project prioritization, project definition, and project development including gate reviews
  • Supports the team to partner with Universities to fill the innovation pipeline for targeted building bock areas
  • Supports the implementation of the Corporate R&D organization to enable the growth strategy within Magna.
  • Develops, initiates, and manages the strategic initiatives with product groups and Magna executives
  • Implements aligned job responsibilities and processes to enable a seamless collaboration with Corporate R&D and key parties
  • Develops the understanding of OEM differences with regional aspects and the impact of these differences on technology implementation
  • Maintains a thorough understanding of Magna’s existing products portfolio and manufacturing processes.
  • Maintains awareness of Magna Corporate and group technology needs, using these to search for technologies of relevance
  • Compile’s technology presentations and updates reports to support Corporate R&D strategy
  • Keeps various Magna organizations and Magna R&D team abreast of program developments
  • Identifies gaps in current product technologies to provide future R&D direction
  • Develops strategic relationships with key technical representatives at the OEMs
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by reviewing professional publications and establishing personal networks
  • Leads defined advisory boards and serve as peer reviewer of technical programs. Builds networks nationally and internationally
  • Attracts, develops, and retains top talent to ensure a continuous Corporate R&D development process
  • Continuously adheres to and applies the Magna Employee’s Charter to all employees
  • Ensures continuous and sufficient bench strength to support the growing needs of the business
  • Develops and supports One Team – One voice culture across all areas of Corporate R&D
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Key Qualifications


  • Minimum 10 years product development experience at an OEM or major tier one supplier.
  • Must have previous 3+ years’ experience managing a team of direct reports.
  • Must have prior experience in launch support for serial production.

Education / Experience


  • Minimum of bachelor’s degree or above in Engineering or another related Science field (Mathematics, Computer Science, Physics, or Chemistry) with exceptional qualifications and experience in research or development (product, material, process)

Special Knowledge / Skills


  • Extensive knowledge of advanced vehicle integration and advanced body systems and interactions.
  • Ability to apply extensive and advanced principles, theories, and concepts, and contribute to the development of solutions to complex problems that require innovation and ingenuity
  • Excellent people and leadership skills
  • Strong spoken and written English language skills. Additional language skills desired
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing Process, Assembly methods and materials used in automotive products
  • Understanding of automotive other industry/customer related standards
  • Excellent presentation skills and interpersonal skills
  • Effective networking
  • Effective problem-solving skills and decision-making skills

Work Environment


  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
  • Local and/or international travel may be required.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
