Role Summary

The Sr Technical Specialist will work on technology projects within the R&D team, supporting technical evaluation of the technologies and the building blocks supportive of automotive products, advanced manufacturing principles and software integration; they will work on a range of technology readiness and project scope investigations requiring deep scientific research, prototyping, advanced development, application analysis, manufacturability and cost analysis; they will contribute to the team’s effort by providing innovative ideas for products and processes. 

Major Responsiblities

  • Plan, execute and coordinate R&D projects for/with internal and external R&D departments, supplier companies, institutions and academia.
  • Research latest advances in technology building blocks for automotive products & systems, software/data analytics methods and advanced manufacturing techniques
  • Work with engineering tools to develop prototype and/or production intent solutions. 
  • Lead, document and present advances of the projects.
  • Evaluate technologies and product designs with compliance to scientific principles, engineering- & software development principles, company standards and customer requirements.
  • Support the development of innovative components or modules from initial concept through full development.
  • Design, simulate, execute and test Proof of Concept systems / programs

Knowledge and Education

  • Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (or similar) background with proficiency in one (or more) common programming languages/environments (Python, Rust, C/C++, MATLAB etc.) and their application for Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning & Data Analytics
  • Familiarity with a variety of Machine Learning methods, their advantages & disadvantages, available libraries, and their areas of application
  • Strong understanding of academic research in the field, ability to monitor publications and keep track of latest progress & development
  • Understanding of project initiation and execution including technical and business aspects.
  • AI method knowledge and preferably hands-on experience in at least several of the following fields:
    • Computer Vision
    • Sensor Data Fusion
    • Advanced Data Analytics
    • Data-Driven Decision Making / Behavior modeling
  • Awareness of global trends related to the automotive and mobility field.

Work Experience

  • An MS degree or higher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science (or similar)
  • Advanced programming capabilities as well as familiarity with several other relevant engineering tools & methods
  • 5+ years of work experience in either product development, concept development, R&D or academia in relevant fields, having successfully conducted and completed projects with measurable outcomes

Skills and Competencies

  • Excellent technical and analytical competence in select areas of technology and research
  • Strong communication skills, both in internal & external project execution as well as ability to explain complex technical scenarios to a multifaceted audience
  • Self-starter with a “can do” attitude

Work Environment

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer.
  • “Hybrid” work, a mix of work-from-home and office days, possible.
