Objective and Scope of Position

The incument is responsible for:

  • Managing resources and personnel to meet production schedules, productivity targets, quality targets and safety objectives within a MAFACT team environment
  • All aspects and functions involved in production of quality parts and to complying with the requirements of Magna Powertrain Sterling Heighs and our customers
  • Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of direct reports 
  • Interviewing, training, mentoring and coaching, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for an efficient, team driven, quality focused operation that promotes an attitude of continuous improvement, in the areas of cost, quality, delivery, safety and technology.
  2. Responsible to provide a safe work environment for all employees through organization, cleanliness and open communication that assure compliance with State and Federal regulations regarding safety.
  3. Lead the team in accomplishing objectives and goals set.
  4. Responsible for conducting audits such as LPA’s, Housekeeping, safety, line purging, etc.
  5. Ensure communication occurs with Production Supervisors.
  6. Keep Supervisors/Plant Manager informed of any issues of concern.
  7. Review active Quality Alerts and ensure the team is aware of the issues.
  8. Directs, develops, mentors and coaches all direct reports.
  9. Assign and manage personnel and equipment resources to meet daily production requirements and shipments to customers.
  10. Confirm that Daily Production Reporting is accurate and Leaders are properly trained.
  11. Ensure that only trained operators are assigned to jobs and that standardized work instructions are being followed.
  12.  Complete Accident Investigation reports as necessary.
  13. Maintain and continuously improve the organization and cleanliness of the facility.
  14. Conduct employee appraisals as required on time.
  15. Ensure proper identification and disposition of products.
  16. Assist the organization in implementation of MAFACT, including lean, standardized work and continuous improvement activities.
  17. Work with Engineering and MAFACT teams to develop and implement standardized work for all processes on their respective line(s).  
  18. Perform audits to ensure standardized work is adhered to.  
  19. Initiate corrective measures for non-standardized work and daily maintenance of team board.
  20. Keep all operators informed about daily targets and company goals and objectives.  
  21. Completes Time & Attendance tasks as required on time.
  22. Demonstrates and promotes Core Values.
  23. Investigate and implement counter measures for shift incidents along with appropriate departments (Die Setters, Tool & Die Repair, Maintenance and Quality Auditors).
  24. Assist in development of production schedule with Materials Department.
  25. Responsible to drive the team to improve and maintain communication between departments and shifts.
  26. Review and approve production scrap, suspect tags, last-off reports, TPM checklists, and error proof logs.
  27. Participates in continuous improvement activities, submits improvement suggestions.
  28. Ensure that company policies and procedures are adhered to including TS16949, ISO14001 (EMS), and Employee Handbook. 
  29. Follows MIOSHA and MPTSH safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) and lockout/tagout.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Associates degree in business or technical preferred.  1-2 years previous supervisory/leadership experience in a manufacturing environment.  Metal stamping and weld/assembly experience.  Experience with Microsoft Office.  Hi Lo permit.

Additional Skills Required

Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers.
Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, sing whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to create and interpret graphs.
Reasoning Skills:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient on the computer, including knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).  Prior experience utilizing AS400 Database software and ability to create spreadsheets.
