Role Summary
The Materials Logistics Specialist position supervises and coordinates all activities of receiving and shipping with emphasis on accuracy, timeliness and service. They work closely with Production, Material Planning and Shipping and Receiving personnel to guarantee that all transportation of goods is timely and accurate.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and coordinates all aspects of logistics, ship schedules, traffic management, any customer concerns related to logistics, shipping and receiving office within a 3-shift operation
- Manage overall carrier relationships and secure appropriate number of carriers to support volume
- Investigate problems, finds root causes, and develop solutions associated with incomplete freight documentation, shipment loss and damage, plus taking corrective actions by filing a freight claim
- Develop and manage Transportation Management Systems (TMS) to support freight planning, execution and performance evaluation
- Complete purchase requisitions and follow up to ensure purchase orders have been prepared and sent to the respective suppliers
- Work with 3PL and carriers to schedule material pick-ups and deliveries in accordance with MEVS production demand and supplier dunnage needs
- Organize all expedited shipments as well shipping requests from all MEVS departments (incoming/ outgoing) and paperwork
- Shipment to subcontractors (including regular production parts or returned parts)
- Supplier QPF Tracking System
- Month End Supplier Inventory Reports
- Fill premium fright form and obtain signature from authorized personnel, forward copies to Finance department and Materials Manager
- Regularly audit customer and MEVS owned dunnage and location
- Prepare logs for premium freight for future review
- Ensure the integrity of import/export documentation such as Certificates of Origin (COO), American Automobile Labeling Act (AALA), Bill of Lading and Commercial invoices
Key Qualifications/Requirements
- Automobile Labeling Act (AALA), Bill of Lading and Commercial invoices
- Communicate with automotive customers and suppliers on matters relating to supply of dunnage and concerns with packaging or shipping; communicates on all departmental and divisional levels on operational issues
- Champion the C-TPAT program team to ensure compliance
- Investigates Materials challenges and difficulties; develops solutions, identifies opportunities to remedy problems and implement solutions
- Prepares reports, cost studies and responsible for logistics budget advises Management of actual or potential problems
- Monitor, track and improve upon key indicators
- Lead Team Members in accordance with the principals of the Magna Employee’s Charter and the policies and procedures set out in the Company Handbook
- Follow and comply with all Operational Procedures and Policies as outlined in the Employee Handbook, Quality and Environment programs (i.e., IATF 16949, ISO14001)

Additional Information
- Works rotating or static shifts as required
- Physically able to perform the essential duties of the position
- Minimum one-year leadership experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably automotive
- Minimum three years related experience
- Effective verbal and written communication
- Strong organizational and leadership skills
- Proficient in computer use
- Ability to uphold confidentiality
- Demonstrates the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Ability to work overtime to meet customer needs
- Must work well under pressure
- Community College Diploma in Material Management or equivalent experience
