Role Summary

A Function Owner is responsible for providing technical leadership for the development of a specific base function or a set of functions (depending on function complexity/content). This includes the cross-functional coordination of defined work packages of the V-Model (requirements, design, implementation, testing) and delivery of the function(s) until the SOP. The Function Owner ensures that the function is completed according to its specification, within the defined time frame, while following the applicable development process. The Function Owner works with internal and external stakeholders including direct customer communication, to fulfil the customer milestones and the feature release plan.

Key Responsibilities

  • The Function Owner ‘Customer Functions Bridge’ is responsible for the communication concept and interfaces between customer functions (application features) and the vehicle network which managed as a part of the base Software of the ECU
  • Is the technical lead for the assigned functions and offers expertise to the development team with support from Program Management, TPL, System Lead, HW Lead, SW Lead, SW & System Test Manager
  • Manages and plans all work packages of the development cycle for the assigned function(s) (requirements, design, implementation) and coordinates Software and System Test in collaboration with the SW and System Test Managers
  • Supervises and/or provides work direction to the function development team members
  • Assigns and tracks the tasks of technical personnel assigned to his/her function on a regular basis
  • Ensures delivery of the committed function performance within the planned time and allocated resources
  • Holds regular team meetings to determine progress and address any questions or challenges
  • Coordinates and is accountable for the analysis, planning and development of function related requirements and standards
  • Analyses and understands customer function requirements using requirements management tools and processes
  • Manages and negotiates customer requirements, change requests, and unwritten expectations
  • Is responsible for the decomposition of customer requirements directly to SW (SRS) level acc. to agreed strategy from Requirements Manager
  • Ensures that development activities for represented functions are compliant to ME-GPEP development process and quality level
  • Communicates planning of function performance KPIs ramp up and defect ramp down internally and to the customer
  • Develops function evaluation and performance criteria and metrics. Analyzes test results and data to ascertain performance meets requirements
  • Is responsible for the early warning of critical issues, planning and target deviations within the project and beyond; definition and execution of counter measures accordingly with support from TPL and/or PM
  • Identifies strategic changes required to improve processes, efficiency and quality

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering / software engineering / electrical engineering / computer science or equivalent (master’s preferred)
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience regarding the responsibility / activities (listed above) in serial development. Automotive electronic (mandatory)
  • Knowledge of product development engineering practices in automotive field
  • Knowledge of embedded software development in C/C++ for 16 bit and 32 bit micro-controllers including application and low level drivers for multiple micro-controllers such as PPC microcontrollers, ARM Core, or DSP
  • Experience with configuration and development of Autosar components
  • Experience with concept and interface development for cross microprocessor communication and data exchange
  • Knowledge of MS Office package (especially Excel)
  • Knowledge of analysis and engineering tools such as version control/configuration management, UML tools, static code check tools
  • Working knowledge of CAN and LIN based tools such as CANalyzer, CANoe, CANape, neoVI
  • Comprehensive knowledge of english (speak & write)
  • Advanced knowledge in the local language(german) desirable
