Role Summary

The SW Tool Developer is responsible for designing the tool software components, coding the software components, testing the software components and implementation to production based on the tool software requirements within the IT group.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop (design, implement, test and debug) specific software tool for KPI reporting, incl. data base creation and maintenance, access rights control and visualization
  • Configure and administrate PTC ALM environments within Magna Electronics
  • Process tickets and change requests for PTC ALM environments (assess potential implementation solutions and discuss risks and effort with the team and the internal customers)
  • Participate in Tool CCB meetings
  • Develop software in compliance with a formal ASPICE/CMMi based Global Product Engineering Process (GPEP).
  • Verify software requirements at component and bench level
  • Support the decision makers of the IT group with all aspects related to software tools
  • Perform complex work assignments requiring independent problem solving and decision making, requiring strong software technical competency
  • Work assignments primarily involve senior/advanced level work and may mentor other software engineers
  • Document changes on tool software and perform versioning on regular basis

Key Qualifications/Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering / Software Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent (Master’s preferred)
  • 8+ years’ relevant experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) for data handling visualizing software environments (e.g., data base, data warehouse) as well as web-based interfaces

 

Technical Skills

  • Knowledge of software product development engineering practices in the industry (automotive preferred)
  • Involvement in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
  • Knowledge of object-based software development in Java, Java Script, C++, C#
  • Experience with implementation of data bases
  • Working knowledge in structured engineering approach
  • Working knowledge in development of portable, reusable and modular software
  • Experience in using a disciplined software development process (e.g ASPICE, CMMi)
  • Working knowledge of configuration and version management (preferably PTC)
  • Project monitoring and control techniques
  • Troubleshooting and debugging skills
  • Knowledge of structured problem solving (e.g. 8D) methods and/or techniques

 

Abilities

  • Ability to read, write, and converse in English as well as to effectively communicate within multinational teams
  • Ability to work effectively in a global environment and to moderate and motivate global teams 
  • Organizational skills to prioritize own tasks and a structured working style
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be needed
