Role Summary

The Tool Engineer – Recording and Reprocessing designs, develops standalone or as SPOC with a supplier and tests recording and reprocessing tools in the functional performance test area.

Therefore, the tool engineer analyzes the project requirements, creates input documents for the supplier, manage the supplier development and performs acceptance tests of supplier deliveries. Also rolling out of new tool versions and troubleshooting of the tools by tool own logs as well as collected records in project operational phase are in his responsibility.

He reports in the project to the technical project lead – recording and reprocessing and is the primary contact for tool supplier at his tool responsibility area.

The by recording and reprocessing department developed tools are mainly the logging chain for data collection vehicles, support tools, like record parser and validators for standalone usage, feature visualization as well as reprocessing HIL’s and SIL’s. Based on the tool responsibility his internal collaboration partners are: Technical Leads – Recording and reprocessing, Feature Owner, Data Management, Vehicle Integration, Annotation, KPI Analysis, System Test as well as ECU Development departments (Sw, HW, Mechanics and System Architecture).

 

 

Key Responsibilities

Tasks towards the Technical Project Lead Recording and Reprocessing

  • Reporting timely operational status (i.e. problems, blocking points, issues, task executions, etc…)
  • Ensuring proper timeline execution in aligned task timeframes
  • Alignment on roll outs

Tasks towards Magna internal collaboration partners

  • Collection and negotiation of tool requirements
  • Alignment on technical interfaces for tools which are integrated into superordinate systems
  • Providing of tool descriptions like User Guide, installation guide, troubleshooting guide
  • Roll out of new tool releases based on aligned timelines
  • Defect ticket pre-analysis and troubleshooting and bug fixing on delivered tools
  • Analysis of collected ECU records for root cause analysis

Tasks toward suppliers (Supplier based tool development)

  • Creation and delivery of aligned contents (Requirements, Specifications, HW, project processes) toward the supplier
  • Creation of CRs and bug defects
  • Continuous technical alignment with suppliers via regular alignment meetings
  • Performance of acceptance tests and review of documentation for supplier deliveries

Tasks toward Record and Reprocessing team

  • Collaboration with Technical leads on new tool concepts
  • Collection and definition of requirements
  • Creation of design documents and test specifications
  • Implementation and extension of tools according to specification (at Magna own development)
  • Review of tool specifications and documentation
  • Scripting of test automation for tool tests

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering / Software Engineering / Electrical Engineering / Computer Science or equivalent (Master’s preferred)
  • 2+ experience regarding the Responsibility / Activities (listed above) for automotive electronics serial development projects (mandatory).
  • experience in automation Recording and reprocessing tooling   

Key Qualifications

  • Knowledge of MS Office package (especially Word, Excel, Power Point)
  • Knowledge of ALM tools (PTC Integrity, Jira, Confluence) as well as version control tools
  • Experience in requirements management
  • Experience in test specification and test procedures
  • Experience in coding and script languages: C, C++, optional Java, Python, optional ROS (Visualization tool), optional ADTF (HIL tool)
  • Experience in main automotive communication standards like CAN, Automotive Ethernet, Some IP, UDS, XCP ,DLT, etc.
  • Experience in Embedded interfaces like UART, SPI, I²C, etc.
  • Experience in analysis of automotive communication records: MDF4, PCAP, Wireshark, optional DAT (ADTF)  
  • Ideally experience with MobileEye data structures like TAPI and EyeQ SPI communication
  • Experience in PC network communication and interfaces like Ethernet, PCIe, SATA, USB, ect.
  • Experience in logging tools, measuring tools and test benches, ideally ADAS Sensor recording and reprocessing tools
  • Ideally experience in troubleshooting and maintenance of logging systems and PC based testbenches
  • Recommended experience in assembling of electrician and mechanical test systems
  • Knowledge in ECU flashing procedures and tools
  • Knowledge for ADAS Sensor systems and test concepts is recommended (features, components and communication)
  • Good communication, presentation and documentation skills
  • Able to work in distributed global team environment
  • Willing to learn and work with new technologies and why they are needed
  • Good English and German skills are essential
  • Travel (domestic and international) may be needed
