The business unit Engineering Services of Magna Powertrain in St. Valentin, Austria, provides top engineering to Magna and to external customers worldwide. We perform our services generally for cars, trucks, agricultural tractors, special vehicles and their systems. Our development scope stretches from concept to series development for classical complete vehicle topics as well as future topics like e.g. e-mobility and ADAS up to autonomous driving.


Your Responsibilities

Many of our engineering services, especially those for electric and hybrid vehicles and their systems, require Functional Safety Engineering. You will act as a Functional Safety Engineer, supporting the development of functional safety in projects, directly reporting to the Sr. Mgr. Functional Safety. Your main task will simply be to make our products functionally safe. I.e. together with the project team you will analyse risks, develop functional and technical safety concepts as well as monitoring functions, derive safety requirements, verification and validation specifications.

Your Functional Safety Engineering Tasks

  • Analysis and evaluation of customer functional safety requirements
  • Interdepartmental contact person & technical expert for functional safety 
  • Alignment of functional safety concepts, technical safety requirements, verification specification with the project team, with internal and external stakeholders (e.g. Hardware team, Software team, suppliers, customer …)
  • Development of functional and technical safety concepts including derivation of safety requirements for mechatronic systems
  • Specification and development of monitoring and diagnostic functions 
  • Perform, support and / or moderate safety analyses on system, hardware and software level (e.g. FMEA, FTA, DFA, FMEDA…)
  • Support and participate in internal/external assessments and audits

Your Qualification

  • Degree from a technical university (TU) or a university of applied sciences (FH) in mechatronics, electrical engineering, physics, vehicle engineering, etc.
  • Profound professional experience in at least one field of functional safety, safety verification / validation, product development regarding safety topics for complex technical systems, vehicles, e-mobility, ADAS development, autonomous / automated driving, embedded software development, E/E hardware development, system architecture 
  • Experience in the usage of safety and requirements management tools (e.g. PTC Integrity, Doors, HP Alm, Safety Office) is advantageous
  • Very good command of English language. German is mandatory
  • Experience in the development of safety concepts for mechatronic systems is a big plus.
  • Background in the specification of technical (safety) requirements, especially for software and hardware is an advantage
  • You are a team player with structured and analytically thinking using a systematic working approach and your excellent communication skills to achieve your goals. 
  • Knowledge of automotive / functional safety standards (e.g. ISO 26262, A-Spice, IEC 61508) is very helpful
  • Knowledge within automotive industry and development of safety critical mechatronic systems advantageous

For this function, we offer an attractive compensation package that matches your individual experience and qualifications. The gross annual salary  for 38.5 hours is at least 51.800 (FH-Master degree). Overpayment is possible according to your experience and educational background.
