About the Role

Magna Steyr is looking for a talented team member with experience in dimensional variation simulation as it relates to overall vehicle design. This would be a passionate individual interested in being involved in developing the next level industry standard for vehicle architecture and production solutions. The position will be responsible to support the Senior Engineering lead positions within the Magna Steyr North American vehicle engineering activity with a focus on overseeing and coordinating dimensional variation as it relates to proposed vehicle assembly requirements. This position will be responsible to oversee and define dimensional characteristics for system, sub-system, and component level designs and ensure best practices for each are followed throughout the many phases of product development (ie: concept, production design and engineering, product release, manufacturing, and assembly, etc). 

Your Responsibilities

Technical Responsibility
Contribute to the Global Technical Area (GTA) strategy and growth by supporting the Lead Engineering roles and the whole engineering team in areas such as:
•    Lead the engineering team in defining best practices for minimizing build variation through all aspects of the vehicle assembly process
•    Provide expertise and proactively contribute to system, sub-system, and component GD&T development & definition 
•    Directly access program CAD based information from team center to evaluate product designs for expected tolerancing schemes and their impact on the resulting completed assembly 
•    participate in team design reviews to ensure consistency among cross functional teams with respect to tolerancing schemes and product assembly approach
•    As required maintain and distribute running open issues matrix summarizing status of all items including responsible parties for resolution of each issue
•    Provide regular reports to program management summarizing key concerns and demonstrating quantitative progress towards problem resolution metrics
•    Support and contribute to knowledge base of internal and external best practices
•    Stay current with industry standards and practices and identify potential areas of continuous Improvement to the team and group leads
•    Maintain regular and consistent attendance 
 

Who we are looking for

Project Planning, Target Achievement, Monitoring & Reporting
Employ knowledge and technical experience to support the engineering development of one or more subsystems
•    Support the project team(s) engineering in achieving project objectives, performance and cost requirements, and timing milestones
•    Assist and lead, when assigned, with external support services and resources involved with the project engineering development
•    Support work development packages assigned to third parties
•    Support the project senior engineering personnel in meeting program deliverables including, but not limited to, product definition, component design and release, validation, supplier support, launch support, etc.

Project Related Interface 
Support and promote project and operations collaboration 
·    Participate in global development touchpoint and milestone meetings 
·    Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) to assure production feasibility
·    Collaborate with the design studio to assure product appearance harmony
·    Collaborate with all cross functions to make complex decisions
·    Collaborate with the other project GTAs

Employee Related Tasks
Ensure cooperation with all areas within the engineering and request the required frame conditions
·    Ensure cooperation with project management
·    Ensure cooperation with all other groups within the area
·    Secure knowledge of development tools within the group
·    Maintain training level according to the training plan and required skills
·    Cooperation with all Magna Steyr locations
·    Escalation problems at the earliest time with the appropriate team members

•    Must have a positive “can do” attitude

•    Should be team oriented with a focus on striving for the best solutions for the group as a whole
•    5 to 10 years’ relevant experience in variation analysis as it relates to full vehicle architecture and vehicle assembly
•    Education – Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Mathematics (with an emphasis on Statistics) or equivalent (Master’s Degree Preferred)
•    High level proficiency in CAD based applications (CATIA preferred)
•    Expert level of competency with VSA software (ie: Tecnomatix, DCS)
•    Proficient computer knowledge and skills, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)
•    Professional communication skills (written and verbal) 
•    Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct normal amount of work at a computer
•    May require local, domestic, and international travel – less than 15% domestic + international
