Role Summary

Under the direction of the quality manager, the CMM Operator responsible to operate the coordinate measuring machines and to carry out a wide variety of duties in respect to maintaining the accuracy of our “master” measuring tools with a positive cooperative attitude supporting both the department and departmental leadership. CMM operators are expected to facilitate solutions and possess excellent listening, communication, problem solving and organizational skills. 

Perform all duties and promote themselves in a manner that reflects MEVS Expectations and MEVS’s Visions/Values through Magna’s Employee Charter.
Follow and abide by all government, Legal, Magna and MEVS rules and regulations.
Follow environmental protocol as prescribed by the Environmental Management System (EMS).


Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to continuous improvement and cost reduction activities.
  • Take initiative to follow through on completion of tasks/projects.
  • Demonstrate a sense of urgency to achieve results.
  • Operate CMMs to ensure accuracy for correlations and other activities.
  • Operate overhead cranes.
  • Ensure all gauges and fixtures are maintained and certified.
  • Perform capability / reliability studies.
  • Support all special projects (i.e. SMR’s, Prototype, Repair).
  • Provide support to Perceptron Technicians to resolve dimensional and gauge related issues.
  • Provide support to all departments to resolve dimensional related issues.
  • Perform other duties as designated.

  • The CMM Operator works in both an office environment and a manufacturing environment. Some of the physical demands of this position include sitting for prolonged periods of time, walking up and down staircases, occasional lifting, and occasional stooping and bending.
  • Able to work shift work. Able to be flexible in hours of work in order to meet internal/external customer requirements (scheduled and non-scheduled overtime shifts, etc.)


  • Some of the equipment and tools used are computer, telephone, fax machine, copier/printer, and a projector. 

Additional Information


  • Knowledge of AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Basic knowledge of LK.
  • Exposure to Quality Assurance systems and requirements an asset.


  • High School Diploma or equivalent 
  • Post-secondary education or equivalent.


  • Experience within the automotive industry 
  • Must have experience running CMM programs or equivalent Coordinate Machine programming experience.

  • Responsible to adhere to all Health and Safety programs in accordance with the O.H.S.A.  
  • Follow and ensure the company’s procedures regarding safety rules and regulations are followed throughout the plant.
  • Ensure that you work and operate equipment according to MEVS’s safety rules and regulations.
  • Active role in maintaining excellent housekeeping through leading by example. 
  • Ensure that your department is clean, tidy, organized and a safe workplace at all times.
  • As with Safety, Security is everyone’s responsibility and MEVS requires its employees to contribute to this activity by immediately notifying your supervisor when you identify security issues that affect the integrity of our supply chain, in accordance with PIP (Partners in Protection) and C-TPAT (Customs – Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) requirements.
