Role Summary

To manufacture safety critical, quality parts at an established rate following approved processes and training. Managing automated equipment to achieve the targeted OEE performance including minor maintenance activities. All production processes and products manufactured at Magna Powertrain Shelby Township, including but not limited to assembly, inspecting, packing, testing, measuring, maintenance and machine operations.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for ensuring that all safety, environmental and quality procedures are followed.
  2. Authorized to stop the process if it does not meet safety and/or quality requirements and notify Leader, Supervisor or Quality personal immediately. Follow Leader / Supervisor instructions after they reviewed the situation.
  3. Understand and follow SWI (Standard Work Instructions) and JES (Job Element Sheets).
  4. Follow all required inspection requirements at the specified frequencies.
  5. Responsible to escalate any Quality, Environmental, Ergonomic, Safety, Equipment or Production concerns to Team Leader, Supervisor and/or utilize Open Door Process.
  6. Follow all applicable processes including but not limited to, control of nonconforming outputs, labeling, and production reporting.
  7. Maintain and improve the cleanliness and organization (5S) of the work area.
  8. Maintain professional and cooperative communication with all other employees. Treat co-workers with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Common Values.
  9. Escalate immediately if any concerns arise about performing an assignment safely and correctly producing safety critical products without defects.
  10. Attend and participate in team and employee meetings.
  11. Responsible to follow the Gap plan during down time incidences.
  12. Participate in Operator facilitated maintenance activities to support the TPM approach.
  13. Escalate down time reasons to drive continuous improvements to improve OEE.
  14. Report any visible wear and tear of visible malfunctioning of autonomous equipment immediately.  All near miss incidents involving autonomous equipment must be reported immediately.
  15. Accurately report production of all required data and follow escalation process.
  16. Participate in cross functional team meetings to review problems and develop solutions.
  17. Train co-workers on all job duties including, machine operations, visual inspection, and packing of product.
  18. Report any injuries, accidents, property damage, near miss parts spill incidents etc. to Supervisor or Team Leader and complete Employee Incident Report as required.
  19. Report equipment malfunctions and mishits and complete required forms.
  20. Support and participate in division and department improvement initiatives through Continuous Improvement Suggestion Program, and sharing of knowledge, ideas, and/or best practices with co-workers.
  21. Treat co-workers with dignity and respect and in accordance with the Magna Employee’s Charter and Core Values.
  22. Attend and participate in team and employee meetings.
  23. Responsible to follow all applicable processes including company policies and procedures, IATF, ISO14001 (EMS), Mafact, MQS and Employee Handbook
  24. Follows MIOSHA and MPTST safety regulations and policies, including wearing required P.P.E. (Personal Protective Equipment) and Lockout.  Reports unsafe conditions to Supervisor/Leader. 
  25. Complies with the designated ISO / 14001 responsibilities related to effective environmental management in accordance with MPT’s Environmental Management System (EMS).

Education, Experience and / or Job Requirements

Experience in an automotive manufacturing environment.  Demonstrated ability to perform all assembly operations. Must be able to successfully train operators following the SWI and JES for each operating station. Results-oriented team player, high energy level and good attention to detail. Must be able to work required hours.  Experience with equipment such as mics, calipers, hipot, and lasers (where applicable). Demonstrates creativity, initiative, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work overtime. Excellent attendance and performance record.  Willing and able to be cross trained on various processes, machines and products.  Demonstrated ability to perform all required skills to perform the function effectively.

Additional skills

Language Skills:  Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions.  Ability to document forms as required by position.  Able to communicate in English effectively, (written and oral).

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer knowledge.

Reasoning Skills:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Communication SkillsAble to use active listening.  Ability to give positive and constructive feedback effectively. Maintain professional and cooperative communication with all other employees.
