Role Summary

This position is responsible for designing, developing and launch and production support of all Tooling at Magna Powertrain Sterling Heights.

Key Responsibilities

  • Stamping Tooling design & development from quote phase through development and launch  and production support.  Reviews customer prints for stamping feasibility and conducts design for manufacturing analysis.  
  • Supports all gate review deliverables in the launch phase.
  • Lead the tool design reviews with the tool room and collaborates with customers to develop the best DFM solution.
  • Supports the new technologies and keeps up to date on new tool and stamping processess.
  • Supports all Magna Continous Improvement initiatives and suggestions.

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • Journeyman Tool & Die Certificate or Minimum 5 years tool build experience required.
  • Hands on Experience in new tool build and production tool repair required. Experience in all aspects of new stamping tool design.
  • Experience with stamping press transfer systems and transfer finger design.
  • Experience with the development and drawing of Die OP sample MMP Drawings. Knowledge / experience with Auto Form Part Simulation Software. Experience with stamping/part FEA Analysis.
  • Experience in blank size calculation from part prints and part models. Auto-Cad 2-D Drawing and 3-D Tool Drawing experience required. Strong in stamping process / part trouble shooting experience a must. Experience with both decimal and metric drawings and tools.
  • Experience with total turnkey stamping process from coil / blank feed line to finish part. Experience / understanding of stamping part print GDT required.
  • Ability to work with others in a team environment.
