Role Summary

Design, & Develop, Launch and production support of all Stamping Tooling and Processes at the division.  Support Continuous Improvement.

Education and/or Experience Required

An Engineering degree with three to four  years’ experience using 3D and 2D CAD tools to design tooling and fixtures in a manufacturing plant or support of the plant.   Ability to work with others in a team environment.

Key Responsibilities

Quotation Phase

  1. Review customer prints for stamping feasibility 
  2. Use analysis tools to optimize coil and Blank size
  3. Do initial forming analysis (crash form) to confirm feasibility 
  4. Work in a cross functional team to develop a robust stamping process


Launch Phase & Serial Production Phase 
Supporting all gate review deliverables.  These include;

  1. Document all process parameters in the PFMEA and setup process monitoring of setup parameters in collaboration with the Quality and maintenance department with TPM in mind
  2. Releasing detailed tooling prints and tooling BOM into a vaulted system.
  3. Develop and maintain die set up sheets.
  4. Manage tool design, build, and change activities and timelines to meet established deliverables.
  5. Simulation and analysis for optimal stamping tooling design using Auto Form and Unigraphics NX.
  6. Stamping drawing for each Stamping Operation with stack up to assure capable final stamped part that will be shipped as finished or used in subsequent CNC machining or Assembly operation.  
  7. Develop measurement plan for stamped part. 
  8. Develop PFMEA and control plan for tool and support systems, for material movements through the process including fall-off.
  9. Responsible to include tool protection as a holistic approach between tool press and transfer system. 
  10. Develop maintenance instructions for tools and support systems like load / unload interface systems, transfer fingers and arms
  11. Manage holistic lube strategy to ensure a robust setup, no overspray impacting environment or equipment, ensuring accurate lube location which can easily be maintained, ensure zero internal set a time is needed.
  12. Design tool and support systems for single minute changeover.
  13. Develop standard work for change overs Including balance charts, combination table and JESs where needed. 
  14. Maintain and update tooling standards with lessons learned.

Additional Requirements

Language SkillsRequires extensive tact and communication skills (verbal and written) for direct Customer/Supplier communication.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization. Able to communicate in English effectively (both written and oral). Ability to read and comprehend instructions and correspondence such as safety rules and operating instructions.  Ability to document forms as required by position.

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of AS400. Proficiency of Microsoft Office suite including Word, Excel (ability to create spreadsheets), Outlook and PowerPoint and Project Management software. 

Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.  Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.   Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Problem Solving Skills:  Is able to conduct individually or in team settings structured problem solving. Understands and can apply 5 Why methodology, Skillful in analysis of problems, research to identify root causes and find solutions, creativity to find robust and effective solutions to problems.  Able to make decisions based on available information.
