Role Summary

The Toolroom Supervisor is responsible for the maintenance of the tooling along with supporting the Toolroom Manager in smooth running and management of the Toolroom. 

Note: 37.5 working hours. 08:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday

Working Environment:

Plant conditions necessitate exposure to heat, cold, dust, hot objects, and loud noises within our manufacturing environment. Full Health and Safety training and PPE provided for all conditions.

Experience

Essential

  • Time served apprentice in relevant discipline
  • Die Casting Experience
  • Experience in repairing support tooling in casting shop (Trim Tools, spray heads, straightening tools, etc.)
  • Excellent hand tool skills. (hand tools will be supplied) 
  • Experience in working with Toolroom equipment including overhead cranes
  • Experience in Inspection equipment (micrometer, height indicator, etc.), various steel and lubricants
  • Experienced in using milling machine, lathe, surface grinder, bench grinder, rockiniser etc.
  • Ability to administer and execute the preventative maintenance program
  • Strong communication skills at all levels within the business and with customers
  • Able to manage and prioritise numerous projects simultaneously
  • Strong Microsoft office skills
  •  

Desirable

  • Knowledge in vacuum die-set servicing and maintenance preferably aluminium.

Key Responsibilities

Developing, mentoring the toolroom team including team leaders, toolmakers and toolmaker apprentice/s.
Implementation and management of CMMS (Maintenance Management System, Agility). Ensuring traceability of all work requested of the toolroom and trend data generated to improve efficiencies within the department.
Utilise the system to generate automated PM for tooling and create procedural documentation to compliment routine activities. Health and safety systems within the toolroom, all risk assessments written and kept up to date. Safe systems of work a created/updated for activities and equipment within the department. All COSHH data correctly collated and kept up to date with latest SDS revisions.
Recruitment, participate in interviewing of candidates for roles within the toolroom as required. New tooling introduction. assists with die design team supporting tooling trials and development/ implementation of improvements to tooling.
Responsible for continuous improvement within the department.
Driving participation from all team members in both internal and cross departmental improvement projects. Responsible for 5s implementation and ensures audits are completed with results displayed and generated actions closed off promptly.
Perform annual PDR with the team and hold reviews of progress throughout the year. Ensure that departmental KPI’s are produced and kept up to date.
Driving actions to ensure associated targets are meet.
Align all spares to the CMMS system and ensures that all critical spare parts and consumable items are re-ordered in a timely fashion.
Liaise with external suppliers to produce spare parts, obtain quotes, verify drawings and ordering and storage of spare parts.
Contribute towards departmental budget preparation/projection for development for team and equipment.
Work positively with all functions / departments to define the processes / procedures / controls relevant to operational activities.
Display a high level of motivation, optimism and is action / result orientated. Plan/ arrange necessary training for toolroom team on existing and any new equipment.
Attend and populate material for Tier 3 and deputise at Tier 4 daily meetings when required. Preparation and maintenance of existing tooling according to production planning requirements. Effectively identifies day to day tooling issues and implements corrective action where required Ensures all tooling is safe and production ready at the time returned for production use, following correct preventative maintenance (PM) process.
Ensures leadership team is advised when assignments cannot be completed as planned Supports coordination of engineering changes and supports maintenance with the manufacture of spare parts.
May design / make tools / templates to produce prototype parts of various materials including generating bill of material and complete fabrication and validation.
Verifies conformance of machined and/or repaired tools to specifications by checking dimensions / clearances / alignments.
Fits and assembles parts and test completed tools for proper operation as required. Technical representative for the toolroom dept. within cross functional problem solving teams.
Responsible for work allocation, holidays and overtime, timekeeping and absence management across all shifts.
