Mission of the Position

 

The Power Electronics Engineer will be responsible for the design of the power electronics in innovative automotive high power, traction inverters. The person will be part of the Advanced Engineering power electronics team that works on innovative technologies in the field of power electronics, specifically inverters.


We are seeking intermediate to senior level candidates – level determined based on candidate experience and expertise in the required areas outlined below.
As an Intermediate level engineer, the engineer will work independently with limited supervision to evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria using knowledge and judgement to make adaptations and modifications. 


As a Senior Engineer, the engineer will independently perform a wide variety of complex/advanced engineering work to include planning, designing, and carrying out work assignments, often serving as a technical authority of the department with little to no supervision.  The engineer will mentor and guide less experienced team members.
 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Design, calculation, and simulation of the power electronics for innovative traction inverter.
  • Integration of innovative technologies in the field of power electronics into the inverter platform.
  • Technology scouting in cooperation with the respective departments and industrial partners.
  • Maturity increases of innovative technologies in the field of power electronics. 
  • Close alignment with power electronics departments to ensure knowledge exchange.
  • Steering of academic and industrial partners in cooperation projects.
  • Planning and carrying out tests of power electronics as well as root cause analysis and corrective measure implementation in case of test failures.
  • Execution of feasibility studies in the field of power electronics.
  • Modelling of power semiconductors and power electronics. 
  • Development of scalable tools and methods for the design of automotive traction inverters.

Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, or mechatronics required, Master’s degree in electrical engineering or mechatronics preferred.
  • 5 – 7 years of experience in Power Electronics design engineering; specifically with traction inverters (intermediate) required. 
  • 7-10 year of experience in Power Electronics design engineering; specifically with traction inverters (senior) required.
  • Experience with power electronics.
  • Experience with simulation and development tools e.g., Matlab, Plecs, LTSpice, Altium.
  • Problem solving skills (“Getting the things done”).
  • Self-motivated, structured, analytical. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills.

Work Environment

 

Office environment; minimal travel required. 

 

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
