Position Overview

The CAD Designer prepares 3D math data, working layouts and typical sections of automotive vehicle components/packaging, assemblies or systems from engineering specifications, prior layouts, well-defined sketches, and engineering instructions. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform design duties by utilizing intermediate to advanced-level knowledge and command of Catia software system 
  • Design parts and packages systems in a manner which reflects the forming processes and capabilities of manufacturing and assembly tooling  
  • Practice proper modeling techniques which allow part/package to be easily modified during later engineering changes 
  • Interpret and follow design direction with minimal additional direction needed to complete task 
  • Capable of prioritizing and performing multiple advanced modeling studies correctly and efficiently in order to contain all program timing 
  • Ability to understand and apply customer's given standards and procedures within the part or packaging design 
  • Create 2D drawings that are completed with enough data to ensure the part could be manufactured, quoted, or gauged for functionality 
  • Effectively use and interpret simulation applications during modeling and design 
  • Understand and apply geometric dimensioning & tolerance (GD&T) to component and systems designs 
  • Showcase solid understanding of automotive structure (part placement, usage, and performance) 
  • Understand and adhere to the company engineering work order system 

Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience with Catia software and with conceptual design and packaging v
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams) and PLM 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills     

Education / Experience

  • Associates Degree Required

Physical Demands / Work Environment

  • Normal amount of sitting or standing, average mobility to move around an office environment, able to conduct a normal amount of work at a computer. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
