Mission of the Position


Magna Powertrain provides promising undergraduate students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain practical work experience in their area of discipline related to the automotive industry.  Engineering Intern/Co-op students have the responsibility to perform technical tasks for designated groups and assist with projects on all levels throughout the program.


Team Summary:

The Functional Safety and Cybersecurity team is responsible for ensuring that the products we produce are free from unreasonable risk due to electrical malfunctions and unreasonable exposure to cyber threats. We work within the engineering organization to design and verify technical product requirements as well as ensure process compliance.

Key Responsibilities


  • Prepare documentation in preparation for TISAX certification (Trusted Information Security Assessment Exchange) and customer application projects.
  • Act as liaison between engineering team and areas outside of engineering (e.g. IT, InfoSec, facilities, etc.) to collect evidence from these areas.
  • Propose engineering process improvements necessary to comply with TISAX or customer requirements.
  • Report out documentation progress regularly.
  • Expected Learning Outcomes:
    •     Exposure to automotive functional safety (ISO 26262)
    •     Exposure to automotive cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434)
    •     Exposure to TISAX and similar customer requirements
    •     Exposure to a mature engineering landscape, and evidence-based arguments
    •     Exposure to version control systems

Requirements and Qualifications


  • Minimum 3.0 GPA required.
  • Enrolled in an engineering program with an accredited school. 
  • Understand the basics of engineering theory and principles of design.
  • For graduate student: Must be within 12 months post-graduation.

Work Environment


Office environment; minimal travel required. 

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
