Mission of the Position

 

Works with the electrical hardware engineering group assisting with projects on all different levels throughout the co-op program. 

 

Team Summary:

 

The electrical hardware group is responsible for the design and release of electronic control units (ECU), electric motors, solenoids, sensors, connectors and wiring harnesses using various types of techniques that apply engineering principles and analytical techniques to the design and development of product concepts, prototypes and component assemblies.
 

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Help conduct research, new tools, best practices and alternative approaches to optimal electrical components. Prepare and present findings to engineering and operations teams.
  • Works with engineers on the documentation of detail design, analysis, computer modeling, prototype/production drawings and specification releases.
  • Build wire harnesses and breakout boxes as needed. 
  • Perform requirement gap analysis and generate a report.
  • Supports and adheres to policies, procedures, and operational guidelines related to established quality management system (IATF 16949).
  • Maintains working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Expected Learning Outcomes:
    •     Engineering Business Practices
    •     Basic knowledge of automotive mechatronic hardware/controls
    •     Hands on experience in automotive electrical hardware product development
    •     Exposure to Mathcad, PSpice simulation (Orcad, LTspice)), Digital Multimeter, Oscilloscope

Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
  • Enrolled in an Electrical Engineering, and/or Computer Engineering (Science) program with an accredited school. 
  • Understand the basics of engineering theory and principles of design, with fundamentals of electrical engineering.
  • Knowledge in computer-based software, strong organizational/communication skills, and ability to work with others in a team environment.

Work Environment

 

Office environment; minimum travel required. 

 

While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
