Mission of the Position

 

The Lead, Prototype Assembly will plan, direct, and coordinate prototype assembly processes. They will mentor, and guide a team of prototype builders, and logistics (clerk, coordinator, shipping/receiving supervisor) to deliver prototypes for the engineering center. They will be responsible for leading the development of electrification assembly lab for eMotors and inverter assemblies, and ensuring the team is delivering to customer expectations.

Key Responsibilities

 

  • Manages the control, coordination, and maintenance of the prototype assembly function to ensure that all prototype assemblies conform to engineering design, contract, and specification requirements.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with company policy, procedures and includes interviewing, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaint and resolving problems.
  • Organize prototype build requirements and prepare planning / tracking for all projects.
  • Determine and develop the tools and fixture requirements for assembly process working with fixture design engineer and Prototype Builders.
  • Responsible for reading, interpreting drawings and using 3D CAD Modelling tools to create detailed assembly process instructions.
  • Understand and document potential failure modes for assembly process to create quality control checklist.
  • Analyze and plan work force utilization, space requirements, workflow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency. Support e-quote and CAPEX activities for traditional and electrification products. 
  • Provide training to Prototype Builders for the assembly process associated with each new design. 
  • Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding assembly capabilities, prototype schedules, and other considerations to facilitate prototype processes.  
  • Organize logistics and ensure prototype parts meet delivery requirements (packing, labelling, reports, and relevant customer documentation).  
  • Lead the development of electrification assembly lab for e-motors and inverter assemblies.
  • Manage part inventory storage and Short-Term Storage Warehouse Facilities.

Requirements and Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering required 
  • 5-10 years of related experience in design, manufacturing, electrical, testing, or industrial engineering with strong preference for experience in prototype assembly, manufacturing, build, etc. 
  • 2+ years’ experience in eMotor and/or Power Electronics assembly or oversight of prototype assembly strongly preferred
  • Ability to mentor, train, and develop employees for a future ready organization and state of the art eMobility prototype facility. 
  • Assign the highest priority to customer satisfaction while meeting commitments to achieve business objectives.
  • Knowledge of ISO / IATF 16949 requirements.
  • Knowledge of customers' trends, perceptions, needs and expectations.
  • Negotiating and employee relationship development skills.
  • Communicate clearly with customer focused vision.
  • Experience creating and managing quality control documents for eMotor and Power Electronics prototype assembly.
  • Experienced managing logistics and related requirements for prototypes, while simultaneously managing inventory of parts and short-term storage warehouse facility.
  • Ability to determine and develop the tools and fixture requirements for assembly process working with fixture design engineer and Prototype Builders.

Work Environment

 

Office Environment; limited travel required. 


While working in this environment, the employee will be exposed to machinery, moving equipment and material, moderate noise, airborne particles, fumes and various levels of temperature created by manufacturing processes.
