Role Summary

Have you ever wanted to get into Venture Capital?  The Investment Manager for Magna Innovation Ventures is a tremendous opportunity to enter the VC world on the cutting edge of the mobility revolution.  This individual will search globally for unique technologies or business model innovations that help to advance Magna’s strategy.  You will have the opportunity to work with some of the most brilliant people on the planet and you will lead or materially contribute to investing and partnering with start-up companies.  Qualified individuals will leverage a diverse background with skills across business, technology, and product.  This position demands someone independent, bold, and intellectually curious.  Magna. Key Responsibilities

  • Technical background with a demonstrated ability or interest in the evaluation of a new technology and its ability to be commercialized into a business
  • Develop investment recommendations on target startups and strategically focused venture funds 
  • Develop a strong pipeline of investment opportunities as well as build strong sourcing referral network
  •  Lead efforts to evaluate new strategic investment opportunities including competitor analysis, market mapping, market comparables, and comprehensive business and technology due diligence  
  • Support the negotiation of venture deals with growth opportunities to develop into the lead on future investments and commercial agreements
  • Prepare and deliver presentations and associated materials required for approval of potential transactions, investments, report on investment progress
  •  Act as an ambassador for Magna Innovation Ventures within the venture and entrepreneur communities
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships and networks in our areas and industries of interest; top-tier corporate ventures, the start-up community, and other relevant organizations (GCV, incumbent partners, accelerators, incubators, etc.)
  • Maintain broad awareness of the automotive, transportation and mobility industry and technology market trends, challenges, and opportunities
  • Work closely with the Magna Operating Groups and R&D to help provide innovation pipeline and collaborate on commercial partnerships with startup companies and Magna
  • Provide portfolio support as a secondary Board Director or Observer as needed 
  • Support investment committee meetings

Key Qualifications/Requirements

  • 7+ years Engineering experience
  • Automotive experience preferred 
  • Attention to detail and comfort with data driven decision making 
  • Passion for the entrepreneurial ecosystem with strong connections and networks within the venture community 
  • Strong financial modeling skills including the ability to analyze and model company financials 
  • Ability to persuade and influence others 
  • Demonstrate4d ability to work and communicate effective with Executive level professionals 
  • Strong written/verbal presentation and listening skills with the ability to present complex information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences   
  • Ability to travel (up to 25% - 50%)     

Additional Information


  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another technical subject 
  • MBA, or Master of Science degree  preferred but not required
  • 3-5+ years of experience in venture capital, private equity, or corporate venture
  • Experience working operationally and/or strategically with early-stage companies 
  • Supervisory experience preferred
